The Miami Valley Council is proud to offer the 2025 Wood Badge course, Scouting’s premier advanced leadership training program for adult volunteers. Wood Badge combines contemporary leadership concepts with the traditions and values of Scouting to develop the skills necessary to strengthen units, districts, and councils across the movement.
Course Dates:
Pre-Course Meeting: August 27, 2025 6:30-8:00 PM
Weekend One: September 12–14, 2025 Friday 7:00 AM through Sunday 5:00 PM
Weekend Two: October 25–26, 2025 Saturday 7:00 AM through Sunday 5:00 PM

What Is Wood Badge?
Wood Badge was established in 1919 by Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell as a means to train adult leaders in the principles and practices of Scouting. Today, Wood Badge reflects the best of nearly a century of Scouting experience, enhanced by the latest in leadership development theory used by top-performing organizations and corporations across the country.
Participants gain practical tools in:
- Communication & listening
- Team development
- Conflict resolution
- Goal setting and project planning
- Leading change and servant leadership
Who Should Attend?
Wood Badge is ideal for any adult registered in Scouting who wants to grow as a leader and improve the Scouting experience for youth. This includes:
- Unit leaders and assistants (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouts)
- Committee members and chairs
- Commissioners
- Council volunteers
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a registered adult member of Scouting America. Youth age 18+ may attend if Youth Protection guidelines are followed.
- Have completed position-specific training for your registered position.
- Submit a current Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A and B)

Course Fees
The 2025 Wood Badge course has a tiered fee structure based on registration date. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot.
Early Fee: $300
Must be booked and deposit paid by June 1, 2025, at 11:59 PM
Regular Fee: $325
Must be booked and deposit paid by August 10, 2025, at 11:59 PM
Late Fee: $350
Begins August 11, 2025, at 12:00 AM. A $100 deposit must be paid at the time of booking.
Registration Deadline:
All participants must be fully registered by Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:59 PM.
Scholarships Available
Miami Valley Council is committed to making Wood Badge accessible to all eligible adult volunteers within the council. Financial assistance is available through the Wood Badge Advanced Training Scholarship Fund.
To apply:
- Applicants must be registered and have paid the $100 deposit before applying.
- Submit the online Scholarship Application Form by July 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Form can be found in the attachments section of this page.
- Our team will review applications as they are received.
- Applicants will be notified of the decision within two weeks of submission.
- If approved, the awarded amount will be applied directly to the participant's Wood Badge registration.
Note: Late registrants may still apply, but the maximum award for late applicants is 50% of the regular fee ($325).
