Air Camp
This year, Air Camp, Inc. and the Miami Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, are excited to team up to offer a week-long resident camp for scouts entering grades 7, 8, and 9 from June 17-23, 2018. This innovative camp is rich with creative collaborations among professionals and students, immersive STEM content and skills, and successful engineering design challenges. By the end of the week, each scout learns to pilot a real aircraft from Wright Brothers Airfield in Springboro, Ohio, under the direction and sup- port of an FAA certified pilot instructor. Scouts will log their first hour toward a private pilot's license during that experience. Additionally, the curriculum offered includes some traditional Boy Scout activities present- ed through an aeronautical lens including canoeing with an emphasis on buoyancy, hiking with an emphasis on bisymmetry, and archery with an emphasis on the physics of flight. Throughout the week-long adven- ture, scouts will be immersed in activities that help them achieve their Aviation Merit Badge, Electronics Merit Badge, and portions of the Robotics Merit Badge. Our shared commitment is to engage each partici- pant in exciting activities that will inspire their curiosity, confidence, and content knowledge of aviation, aero- nautics, and greater STEM opportunities for years to come.
