Every Scout Deserves a TRAINED LEADER!
BALOO stands for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. Cub Scout leaders and interested parents, come learn how to effectively prepare and run fun-filled overnight and outdoor adventures in this new and improved training!
To be eligible to hold Pack/Webelos overnight events, a minimum of one adult must be BALOO trained.
Two Part Training: Both Parts are Required
- Online component: The online portions of BALOO are available on the BSA Training Center. Log on to My.Scouting.org. and search the course catalog for BALOO prerequisite.
- Practical, hands-on component: This overnight course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities.
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops in order to be considered “trained”.
