2025 Gateway District | The Gold Rush Klondike

Event Details

Gateway District Gold Rush Klondike.

Come test your skills and compete with other sled groups to see who can strike it rich.

Campsites available for Friday and/or Saturday night camping.

BSA National Standards now require that all adults participating in any Scouts BSA program must be registered in good standing and have current YPT.  To verify that the adult volunteers attending program events are registered, we  now require that the BSA Membership number and the date that YPT was completed, be provided at the time of registration.  This number can be found via My.Scouting.

Klondike Derby “Gold Rush”

Bulletin #1

When: Saturday, January 25, 2025

Where: Camp Lazarus, 4422 Columbus Pike, Delaware, OH 43015

Who: All Scout Troops, Crews and AOLs that have a sponsor Troop are invited to attend.

Cost: $15.00 per person, Scouts and leaders.

Registration:  Online through the Simon Kenton Council website, open through 1/23/25

Check in and sled inspection opens at 8:00am at the log cabin next to Senica campsite.  Opening and flag raising at 8:45am. Derby starts at 9:00am

Camping and Parking:  Units are invited to tent camp Friday and Saturday nights.  Camp sites will be assigned to Units upon arrival at camp. 

Units that desire a cabin or other indoor lodging must make reservations through the Council website or Council office in addition to the Klondike event registration, at additional cost. Vehicles are to be parked in the main parking lot.  Any vehicles or trailers on camp is at the discretion of the Campmaster.

First Aid & Emergencies:   Local EMS will be available along with first aid support staff on site.  Unit Leaders should have current BSA medical forms for each Scout on hand.

Cracker-barrel:  Snacks will be provided at the end of the Derby Saturday. 

Unit Leader Notes:  All adult leaders on camp must be a registered leader with youth protection training.

Dress:  Be prepared, weather is unpredictable.  Think snow!

Compass or GPS

Patrol flag, attached to sledge

Fire making supplies

Appropriate cold weather lunch for patrol

Water

1/4-inch diameter rope – six-foot length (x3)

20 feet of rescue rope (x2)

Extra clothing for emergency

Patrol roster, pen/pencil, paper

Carabineer

Duct tape

Tent

Aluminum pie pan, one for each member

Rifle shooting

River Crossing

Fire Building

Sled Race - time trials

Orienteering

Gold panning

First aid

Bonus: Units are encouraged to decorate their sledge in line with the “gold rush” theme.  Recognition will be awarded for best one!

Closing: Klondike winners will be announced as soon as all stations have reported scoring and after snacks are served.   

Saturday night movie in the Dining hall at 8:00pm

Leave-No-Trace: Each unit is responsible to police their own area. All camp sites or cabins must be checked out by leave no trace staff or camp master before departing camp.
