Event Details

WILDERNESS FIRST AID TRAINING

Sponsored by the Lake Erie Council

Curriculum Developed by the Emergency Care & Safety Institute & OFFICIALLY ENDORSED BY THE BSA!

The Wilderness First Aid course, developed in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America, is great for Scouts and Scout leaders, outdoor enthusiasts, or people who work in an outdoor environment, including camp staff members. WFA certification is also now a pre-requisite for at least one adult leader on each high adventure crew.

Be prepared for your next backpacking or high adventure trip with Wilderness First Aid!

You are about to reach the summit when the seasoned guide collapses unconscious…

A simple misstep introduces your calf to an upset rattlesnake…

Sue is allergic to bees and she was just stung…

Don is a diabetic and he doesn’t look too good…

One guy’s left foot is by his right ear and another guy’s femur is sticking through his pants…

...oh yeah, and you are days from help...so...will YOU be ready???

Accidents and sudden illnesses can and do happen in the backcountry and, if  members of a group aren’t prepared to deal with the emergency, not only can it lead to improper patient care, it can also endanger the entire group.  Anyone who works or plays outdoors needs specialized first aid training - training which encompasses all phases of back country emergencies and which focuses on extended care issues.  Wilderness First Aid addresses the issues of providing emergency care in a rural, wilderness or extended care setting.

Wilderness First Aid will teach proper backcountry emergency response for those who live, work, or play in remote areas. The course is for anyone who participates in activities away from traditional EMS service – when there may be a significant delay in arrival of outside assistance or the need to move the victim to more advanced treatment.

Certified and experienced instructors will cover victim assessment, urgent first aid techniques and appropriate decision-making. It is appropriate for anyone regardless of experience level. This sixteen hour course relies upon a combination of classroom instruction, skills practice and outdoor rescue scenarios to teach the response steps and treatment of injuries and illnesses when definitive help is delayed.
