Summer Scavenger Hunt

As Scouts, we’ve been navigating, searching, and scavenging for over 100 years and it’s time to prove those skills. We've partnered with the Northeastern Ohio Orienteering Club this year for an extra special event!

Join us at Firelands Scout Reservation on August 8, 2020 to compete in the 3rd Annual Scavenger Hunt for ALL Scout programs!  Practical skills will only get you so far, though, this year you'll need to use clues to uncover hidden secrets!

Your Unit will choose between two levels of scavenging. Whether it’s showing off basic compass work and navigation crafts, or putting a GPS to use for geocaching and tacking an official orienteering course, there’s a challenge right for your Scouts.

You'll complete the challenge at each hidden location to score enough “eggs” to compete in the Extreme Easter Egg Hunt for some great prizes at the end of the day!

We invite those competing to camp out the night before and attend a refresher course to make sure you’re prepared for Saturday.

Competition Levels

Basic Level Activities

Stations to learn about pacing, cardinal directions, basic compass work, map reading, and crafts.

Skills Required: Limited understanding of compass navigation (Recommended rank: Cub Scouts)

Advanced Level Activities

Morning activities will reinforce pacing, orienteering with a compass and map, and GPS navigation. The afternoon will be a series of competitions geocaching-style, and official orienteering courses.

Skills Required: Orienteering to a directional heading with a compass, accurate pacing, basic proficiency with using a GPS unit, and map reading. (Recommended rank: Advanced Webelos Scout, or Scouts BSA)

Cost

Early Bird: $15 per participant (ends one month before the event)
Regular Fee: $20 per participant
Late Fee: $25 per participant (starts two Mondays before the event)

Adult Fee: $5 (for food)

Registration closes at 11:59pm the Monday before the event.
