"Founded in May 1867, the Western Reserve Historical Society is Cleveland’s oldest existing cultural institution... Today, the Cleveland History Center houses Cleveland Starts Here® sponsored by the Jack, Joesph, and Morton Mandel Foundation, Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel, WRHS Research Library, the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, the Chisholm Halle Costume Wing (home to fashion exhibits), two historic mansions, as well as a variety of rotating exhibits. Merit Badges Choices:

All sessions will be facilitated by Cleveland History Center staff and Lake Erie Council Merit Badge Counselors:

• American Heritage (Half-Day Session - Morning or Afternoon)
  • Pre-Reqs: Requirement 3C: please be ready to present your family history. For requirement 5, we will focus on option 5C. Bring a copy of the book and the workbook as you will do research in class. Bring an electronic device for the class.
• Citizenship in the Nation (Full-Day Session)
  • Pre-Reqs: It is highly recommended that you read and bring a copy of the merit badge book. You will do research and writing together at MBU. Bring an electronic device for the class. Requirements 3, and 8 (bring a copy of both letters).
• Genealogy (Half-Day Session - Morning or Afternoon)
  • Pre-Reqs: Electronic device recommended for the class - some computers will be available in the library during classwork. Requirements 2 and 3.

Schedule

• 9:00 - 9:30 AM     -     Check-In
• 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM     -     Morning Session
• 12:30 - 1:00 PM     -     Lunch Break
• 1:00 - 4:00 PM     -     Afternoon Session

Cost: (Includes museum admission, lunch, all supplies needed, and a patch)

One of the most exciting parts about being a Scout is finding new adventures. Whether you travel far or explore your local area, opportunities abound to grow in knowledge and encounter new people, places, and ideas. In 2022, Lake Erie Council is proud to introduce the Explore Cleveland series as part of its Merit Badge University offerings. Through these programs, Scouts will have the opportunity to earn a variety of merit badges while exploring institutions, museums, and businesses in the Cleveland area.
