Wilderness First Aid - Fall 2026

WILDERNESS FIRST AID TRAINING
Sponsored by the Lake Erie Council
Curriculum Developed by the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) & Officially Endorsed by Scouting America
The Wilderness First Aid course, developed in conjunction with Scouting America, is great for Scouts and Scout leaders, outdoor enthusiasts, or people who work in an outdoor environment, including camp staff members. Be prepared for your next backpacking or high adventure trip with Wilderness First Aid! The course meets the requirements for Scouting America High Adventure WFA prerequisites.
The course is for anyone who participates in activities away from traditional EMS service – when you are on your own. The course will cover how to handle the situation at hand, and what to do if there will be a significant delay in arrival of outside assistance or there is a need to move the victim for more advanced treatment.
Certified and experienced instructors will cover primary and secondary victim assessments, urgent first aid techniques, appropriate decision-making, and CPR/AED techniques. Previous first aid or CPR training is not required, but it is preferred that Scout participants have the first aid merit badge. The course relies upon a combination of classroom instruction, skills practice and outdoor rescue scenarios to teach the response steps and treatment of injuries and illnesses when definitive help is delayed.
The general weekend course format is:
- Friday 6PM-9:30PM
- Saturday 7:30AM – 9:30PM
- Sunday 7:30AM – 11AM
Housing and meals are included in the registration. To be complainant with SAFE Guarding Youth guidelines separate cabins will be available for M & F adults and M & F Scouts.
By default, all registrants will receive a copy of the ECSI WFA eBook. However, it is recommended that first time participants select the hard copy book upgrade, so they have something easy to reference/review during the course weekend, and also to retain for future reference.
