Spring Fling at Heart Butte

Get ready for a full weekend at Spring Fling at Heart Butte Scout Reservation! This event brings together Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA for hands-on activities, merit badge opportunities, outdoor exploration, and classic camp traditions. From shooting sports and fishing to aviation trips and campfire programs, there’s something exciting waiting around every corner.

 

What to Expect

Spring Fling is designed to give Scouts an immersive outdoor experience while working on skills, advancement, and teamwork. Throughout the weekend, Scouts will rotate through engaging program areas including:

  • Merit badge sessions in Aviation, First Aid, Fishing, Artificial Intelligence, Citizenship in the Nation, Farm Mechanics, Crime Prevention, and Fingerprinting
  • Shooting sports with archery, BB guns, and slingshots
  • Outdoor skills like tent setup, campsite planning, fire safety, and first aid
  • Nature and conservation activities, including an optional Scouting for Clean Waterways project
  • Wildland visitor stations focused on outdoor essentials and Leave No Trace
  • Evening camp traditions like flag ceremonies, a dance party, and a closing campfire

Schedule Overview

While each rank follows a tailored program, the general flow of the day keeps everyone active and engaged:

Morning

  • Breakfast in the lodge
  • Morning flag ceremony
  • Wildland visitor stations and outdoor skills exploration (Cub Scouts)
  • Morning merit badge session (Scouts BSA)

Afternoon

  • Rank-specific activity rotations (shooting sports, campsites, nature programs, and merit badges)
  • Continued rotations and free time
  • Supper and closing flag ceremony

Evening

  • Campfire program
  • Social activities, including a dance party and leader meeting

Cub Scouts (Lion through AOL) will participate in age-appropriate adventures such as map skills, nature identification, first aid basics, campsite setup, and creative outdoor games. Scouts BSA members will focus on structured merit badge sessions split between morning and afternoon blocks.
