Discover SCUBA
Discover SCUBA is Scouting America’s introductory SCUBA experience offered through the SCUBA BSA program. It's perfect for Scouts curious about diving. It combines a classroom introduction and a guided pool session to learn fundamental dive skills under professional supervision. This experience introduces Scouts to the Scuba BSA and is not a certification or merit badge earning opportunity.
Requirements: Have passed the BSA Swim test, at least 11 years old, be at least a Second Class Scout, and a current member of the Occoneechee Council. All participants are required to sign a consent form; Scouts under the age of 18 must have the "Try SCUBA Participant Form" completed and signed by the parent or guardian. The "Try SCUBA Participant Form" can be found under 'Attachments' and at the bottom of this description. Scouts are welcome to come as troops or as individuals.
Experience: Scouts should come in their bathing suit under street clothes with their signed "Try SCUBA Participant Form" (bring a towel and change of clothes, as needed).
There will be a short classroom orientation followed by about 20 minutes in mask, snorkel, and SCUBA equipment in the shallow end of the heated, indoor pool.
Following the experience, Scouts will be able to change and learn more about SCUBA certification, Sea Base experiences, the National Scout Jamboree, and Scuba locations in the Southeast that are amenable to Scouts. There will be snacks and drinks available as well.
