Hello Cardinal District Scouters,

The 2025 Cardinal District Pinewood Derby will be held on Saturday, March 1 at the Pine Springs Preparatory Academy Elementary School gymnasium, 220 Rosewood Centre Dr, Holly Springs, NC 27540. 

The schedule is as follows:

Fri. Feb. 28th

6-9 pm: Check-in and inspection, event setup

Sat. March 1

7:30-8:45 am: Day-of check-in (must request beforehand)

8:45 am: Opening ceremonies

9-10 am: Lions and tigers race

10:15-11:45 am: Wolves and bears race

12-1 pm: Webelos and AOLs race

1-2 pm: clean up 

Here are a few things you need to know. Especially important information is shown in bold.

Each pack registers all its participants. Each pack may send its top 3 finishers in each den for speed, its top finisher per den for the Best Design competition, and the top finisher per den for the Most Original competition. The Best Design and Most Original competitions do not participate in the races.

The rules are available at on our District website. No changes have been made from last year.

The registration fee is $5 per participant.

AOLs that participate in their pack pinewood derby and subsequently bridge to a troop are eligible to race in the district event. They should be registered in the AOL den of the pack in which they raced. 

Each pack is expected to provide 1 adult volunteer to assist in running the event. That adult volunteer should register for a shift through SignUp Genius before completing your pack's registration. You will be asked to verify that an adult from your pack has signed up to volunteer as part of this registration process.

Car check-in and inspection will occur on the evening of Fri. Feb. 28th, from 6-9 pm at gymnasium. This will help us streamline the event on the day of the race. Please make sure your participants are aware of this. If you have a participant that absolutely cannot check-in the night before, they can request a day-of check in (Sat. March 1, 2025 from 7:30-8:45 am) through this link.

Trophies will be awarded for the top 3 finishers in each den for speed, the top finisher in each den for Best Design, and the top finisher in each den for Most Original. All participants will receive a patch. The overall fastest pack will be awarded the Fastest Pack Trophy. New this year: the overall fastest cub scout from all dens will be awarded the Fastest Car trophy! The Fastest Pack and Fastest Car trophies will be given out at Cardinal District Roundtable on Thurs. March 6, 2025 (7 pm at Apex United Methodist Church).
