Tower Level 1 Instructor Training Course (CS75)

The course is designed to cover the Foundations of COPE and Climbing Level 1 Instructor training. The course goal is to ensure that you can safely and effectively support OC Unit, District, and Council Tower activities held at Camp Durant Tower. Training will be conducted following the BSA guidelines of “Climb On Safely”, “Belay On”, National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP) Standards, and OC’s COPE Course Policies and Procedures.
This Level 1 course is intended for Scouting America registered adults who meet the above prerequisites and are interested in learning and teaching the basics of facilitating on OC’s Tower. Upon successful completion of the course (to include demonstrating climbing/rappelling core competencies), adults will receive their OC's “TOWER Level 1” CS75 training card.
Youth participants must be at least 16 years old, registered with Scouting America, and meet the above prerequisites. Upon successful completion (to include demonstrating Tower course core competencies), youth will receive their OC "TOWER Instructor in Training” OS75 card.
Please note that this course will only focus on the climbing tower element. Does not cover COPE Level I or II or Climbing Level I or II competencies & natural rock climbing/rappelling or anchor set-up/safety.

- Scouting America Weather Hazards [1]
- Scouting America Annual Medical and Health Form (Parts A & B) [2]
- Leave No Trace 101 Course [3]
[1] Scouting America prerequisite training must be current (i.e. within 2 years of course start date) or completed before the Instructor Training Card can be issued
[2] Scouting America Annual Medical Form (Parts A & B) must be current (i.e. within 12 months)
[3} Leave No Trace 101 Course is done online at lnt.org (takes about 45 minutes)
Course Provided Equipment
A climbing harness and helmet will be provided for use by each participant during the training course. If you have your own climbing harness and helmet, you may bring them to the weekend course and request approval for use.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Prior to granting permission for use, all personal climbing harnesses and helmets will be subject to inspection by the course staff to ensure they meet both BSA’s and the manufacturer’s safety and appropriate use standards.
