Scout Day at New Mexico Legislature

Event Details

Scout Day at the New Mexico Legislature

February 15, 2027 | 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
The Roundhouse, Santa Fe, NM

Event Overview

This event invites all members of Scouting America—including Scouts BSA, Venturing, Explorers, Sea Scouts, and Cub Scouts—to visit the state capitol. Participants will experience live legislative sessions, take guided tours of the historic Roundhouse Capitol building, and have the opportunity to meet their state lawmakers.

Core Schedule & Key Activities

The day centers around three major components:

9:00 AM – Group Photo Op: All participants will gather immediately at 9:00 AM for a massive group photo in front of the West Door of the Roundhouse.

Guided Capitol Tours: Youth and leaders will participate in guided tours of the unique Roundhouse architecture and history, scheduled dynamically either before or after the legislative sessions.

11:00 AM – Legislative Sessions: At approximately 11:00 AM, Scouts will move to the overhead galleries to watch live democracy in action as the New Mexico Senate and House of Representatives convene.

Rostrum Seating

A select number of older youth members—specifically newly pinned Eagle Scouts—will have the rare opportunity to be hosted directly on the House and Senate floor (The Rostrum).

Early Registration Required: Because floor access requires extensive official coordination, early registration is strictly required to be considered for this honor. Please note that space is limited and a spot is not guaranteed.

Cub Scout Details: Please note that Cub Scouts will not be included in the Rostrum seating. Past experience has shown that the multi-hour requirement to remain completely still and silent on the house/senate floor is highly challenging for younger youth. To ensure they have a positive experience, Cub Scouts are asked to enjoy the sessions from the overhead gallery, where they can quietly exit if they get restless.

Important Details & Requirements

Registration Deadline: You must register to attend by February 8, 2027.

Uniform Standards & Security: Full Field / Class A uniforms are mandatory. They must be clean, tucked in, and worn proudly. No jeans, coats, jackets, or cloaks are permitted inside during the event. Bags are also highly discouraged in the Roundhouse due to space constraints and thorough security checks. (Note: Exceptions to uniform and bag restrictions will readily be made for verified medical reasons.)

Capitol Etiquette: Respectful behavior and quiet voices are required at all times out of respect for our state leaders.

Cub Scout Schedule: To accommodate shorter attention spans, Cub Scouts are scheduled until 12:00 PM and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Lunch Logistics: Units or individual families must organize and provide their own lunches.

Overnight Lodging: Overnight accommodations are available at Bishops Ridge (Camp Stoney) on Sunday, February 14, 2027, featuring a Super Bowl Pizza Party.
