Where: Massawepie Scout Camp- Camp Mountaineer
When: October 5th – 8th, 2018 (Columbus Day Weekend)
What: Massawepie’s introduction to treks and wilderness camping
Massawepie’s Camp Mountaineer will serve as base camp. Troops will be able to tent camp in Mountaineer and move to one of the more than 15 wilderness outposts on the Massawepie property.
There will be a Saturday morning information sessions to demonstrate different outdoor skills. Troops will be encouraged to move out on trail into an outpost campsite which is pre-assigned/registered for on Saturday. There will be a list of items to be completed while out on trial. Groups will come back to Mountaineer base camp on Sunday mid-morning for a group brunch. Units will also have the opportunity to use Camp Mountaineer as a base camp for outside of camp adventures.
Examples of some of the weekend trail list:
- Purify drinking water for group
- Start a fire using alternative methods
- Prepare a meal
- Complete a service project at outpost.
- Hike a loop trail
- And much more
Registration includes weekend registration, tent site, event gift, and Sunday Brunch. Troops are responsible for the rest of their meals the remainder of the weekend.
