Kodiak Challenge

The Kodiak Challenge is an adventure-based leadership development program that pushes the boundaries of every participant. We will hold Seneca Waterways Council's first Kodiak course after more than a decade in the summer of 2023!
This exclusive leadership course consists of a week long trek during which key leadership principles are taught and modeled preparing youth to be high performing leaders and mentors. Kodiak is designed to be an adventure that pushes the boundaries of every participant— one that will encourage you to try new things that may be out of your comfort zone. It is an experience—but one that has its underpinnings in the application of the leadership skills they learned in the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops or Crews, NYLT, and/or NAYLE. It is, as is all of Scouting, an adventure with a purpose! Kodiak is not classroom delivery of leadership skills. The Kodiak experience is to allow participants to grow in their abilities as leaders during an adventure that tests them mentally and physically.
Taking part in a Kodiak adventure will give the participants an opportunity to practice the following skills on their trek:
- Creating a Shared Vision of Success
- Planning
- Communication
- The Stages of Team Development
- Inclusiveness
- Values and Ethical Decision Making
- Servant Leadership
- Leadership Styles
The Kodiak Challenge course is open to Venturers, Sea Scouts, Explorers, and older Scouts, BSA members (aged 14 and up). The 2023 trek will launch from Cutler Scout Reservation and explore the Finger Lakes Trail on the journey toward leadership development.
