Massawepie Outdoor Challenges:
Peak Weekend

"Give wilderness camping a try and stay at one of Massawepie's many outposts."

Where: Massawepie Scout Camps - Camp Pioneer

When:  October 11th – 14th, 2019 (Columbus Day Weekend)

What: Choose from some of the many local mountains, the Tupper Triad, Saranac Six, or from the High Peaks! Massawepie’s Camp Pioneer will serve as base camp. Troops will be able to tent camp in one of the Pioneer or one of the 15 wilderness outposts on the Massawepie property. Your troop will have the opportunity to plan hikes throughout the weekend. A list of suggested mountains will be available closer to the event. A Saturday cookout will follow at 6:00pm. Clean up and camp break down will be Monday morning. 
Things to know about Hiking in the ADK in October:

  • Columbus Day Weekend is very busy and the High peaks will be mobbed. Plan to start early for the best parking and to beat the rush. 
  • Weather is very inconsistent in the High peaks this time of year be prepared for cold and possible snow.  

The weekend fee is $25.00/person (Youth and Adult), which includes registration, tent site,  Saturday night dinner, and Sunday morning breakfast. Troops are responsible for the rest of their meals this weekend. Units must sign up by September 19th. If you sign up after September 19th, the weekend fee is $35.00/person (Youth and Adult).
