BSA Lifeguard Training

Event Details

These courses are fun and rewarding.  It can be demanding both in schedule and your ability to grasp the skills.  The course consists of 9-10 evening sessions and an outdoor boating session. This course is for registered adult leaders only. If space allows, registered youth 16 years of age (for Lifeguarding) or older can sign up with course director’s permission.  They must have the same qualifications (First Aid and CPR certification) to participate.  Attendance is mandatory, clear your calendars.

Prerequisites are

  1. Signed Health Form first night of class.
  2. Ability to swim 550 yards using various strokes (100 yards each (good form) - front crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, tread water 2 minutes) –
  3. Swim 20 yards perform surface dives and dive for objects swim with object 20 yards in 1 minute 40 seconds– long shallow diving and rest by floating. 
  4. Enrollment is based upon skills.

BSALG’s are qualified to supervise troops in aquatic activities, such as troop swims and canoe trips.  The course will use the swimming, lifesaving, rowing, canoeing, and first aid merit badge books.  (Extra bonus, get yourself back in shape for the summer).

*First Aid and CPR certifications are required.  Standard First Aid is acceptable but Responding to Emergency is best.  Basic CPR is acceptable but CPR for the Professional Rescuer is best.  New York State recognizes BSA Lifeguard certification.


MONDAYS at Brockport High School     7:00 – 9:00 P.m. Attendance is mandatory:

  • January 28
  • Feb. 4, 11, 25
  • March 4, 11, 18, 25
  • April 8 (if needed)                                      

OUTDOOR SESSION:  Location and Date TBD         

FEE:  $65.00   Class size is limited, register early with form below at the Scout Service Center by January 21st, 2019.


NOTE: Each participant may need current Swimming, Lifesaving, Rowing, Canoeing, & First Aid merit badge books

IMPORTANT: You MUST bring a current copy of your medical form for our files.  Bring your books; swim suit and towel to each session.

RECERTIFICATION: (Fee: $35.00) for unexpired BSALG cardholders, there will be recertification courses available. The recertification courses will run concurrently with the full courses. (About 3-4 weeks)  Use form below to register BSA Life Guard Training
