Dutch Oven Team Cook-Off

2025 Theme: POT PIE!

Wednesday, May 7, 2025

5pm-8:30pm (set up will start at 4 p.m.)

Cabela’s, 2003 Walden Avenue, Cheektowaga

What is a Dutch oven cook-off?

Put together a team from your Scouting unit to cook, show off and share your best POT PIE recipes (main courses and desserts) at this year’s annual Dutch Oven Team Cook-Off! We’re organizing another fun and delicious event at Cabela’s in Cheektowaga and would love it if you would cook with and for us! Plus, there will be prizes and giveaways!

We provide the starting coals at 5PM and you provide the cooking coals to prepare delicious main dishes or desserts – or both – that you cook in your Dutch oven. Judging begins at 7:30PM.

Three-person teams must be adult-led, but can include youth members. (No youth-only teams at this time.) Other rules apply. See below.

Are spectators welcome?

Yes, spectators are welcome and encouraged! You might even get a chance to try the food being cooked! Spectators will be asked to stay out of the cooking zone, but will be able to watch from the sidelines.

In fact, this a great event for Packs and Troops to witness the skill and artistry, taste wonderful main dishes and desserts, and learn the craft of Dutch oven cooking from the competitors.

Timing:

Cooking starts at 5:00 with judging promptly at 7:30.

Charcoal:

  • Starting hot coals will be provided.
  • Entrants provide their own cooking coals.
  • Teams must dispose of their used coals.

Prizes:

One Grand Champion will win the Revolving Trophy -- “Jack Brown Black Pot” for the best part overall “Main Dish & Dessert”
