In 1919, Lord Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting, held the first Wood Badge course at Gilwell Park to ensure that adult leaders were properly skilled to lead youth in the Scouting program. For the last century, Scouters worldwide have been continuing the legacy of taking Wood Badge to ensure that the methods of effective mentoring and leadership remain strong for the youth we serve.

What is Wood Badge?

It’s Scouting’s ultimate leadership training for adults. Wood Badge is a 2 weekend, 5-day action-packed program. During the course, you’ll get to be a Scout experiencing a month’s worth of an exciting program while learning critical leadership skills. Most participants say that it has helped not only in their Scouting role but also in their professional and family life as well.

Who may attend?

• Any registered adult Scouter from Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Sea Scouting and Venturing, who meets the following eligibility requirements:
• Be registered as a member of Scouting America (there are no minimum tenure requirements).
• Have completed the courses required to be "Position Trained" in your registered Scouting position
• Have completed the outdoor skills training programs appropriate for their Scouting positions.
• Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment.
• Available to attend all sessions

There are no make-up opportunities. If an attendee has to miss any of the sessions they will be dropped from the course and will be asked to return the following year to attend the entire program. This includes attendance at any patrol meetings during the intervening week between the first and second weekend.

Outcomes

You will have the opportunity to join with other Scouters to share ideas, discuss challenges and locate resources. Attendees form new and lasting friendships during their Wood Badge experiences, Wood Badge is an intense leadership training that will change your life.

Wood Badge teaches leadership and team-building skills in a comfortable outdoor setting. There isn’t anything else in Scouting like it. Best of all, Wood Badge is FUN! Please join us on the trail to a mountaintop experience in one of the greatest adventures in Scouting.

Weekend #1: August 27-29, 2027 (Camp Gorton)
Weekend #2: September 18-19, 2027 (Camp Scouthaven)
Registration deadline: July 29, 2027.

Participants must attend BOTH weekends to complete the course. Check-in begins at 7 am BOTH weekends.

Cost:
$350
Fee includes registration, meals, program supplies, National licensing fees and event patch. $100 deposit due at registration. Payment must be received by the Council Service Center no later than Thursday, July 29, 2027 or a $100/person late fee will be added.

Registration Note: You will need your Scouting America ID at time of registration. This is used to verify current registration in the Scouting America program. This can be found in my.scouting.org. For members of your Unit this can be found under the Roster in my.scouting.org or under the profile in Scoutbook Plus. IF you logged in and have access to your Unit Roster this will automatically fill in, if you use Auto Fill.

Other ways to save: (no more than 2 per person, max $50)

• $25 off if you recruit an additional person, they must be paid in full
• $25 off if you have a Scout that attends NYLT in the same year in our Council
• $25 off if you are a member of the District or Commissioner Staff (2 per District)
