STEM ACADEMY

STEM Academy, a day to earn STEM related Merit Badges.  Five separate tracks to choose from.

Please note, three of the five tracks will be completed at the STEM Camporee, May 30th-June 1st, at Camp Sam Wood.

What is STEM?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  This approach challenges youth to think critically, design solutions, and make evidence-based explanations about the world around them.  Through Scouting America's NOVA program, Scouts can learn about STEM related topics while earning Merit Badges and Awards.  Merit Badges are a prerequisite for earning a NOVA Award.

Badges offered:

Digital Technology        Personal Management

Drafting                        Programming

Engineering                 Rifle Shooting

Game Design              Weather

8:00am Introduction to Nova Awards

8:30am-12:30pm Sessions 1 & 2

12:30pm-1pm Lunch

No closing ceremony so after their final session, Scouts are free to leave.

Each badge session is approximately 2 hours long

Tracks 1-3 are designated to be finished at the STEM Camporee (May 30-June1, Camp Sam Wood) so attendance at the Camporee is required.  Tracks 1-3 are for Scouts ages 12+.  During Registration, please select 1 (one) track- Scouts will complete the four badges in that track.  If Scouts already have a badge in that track, they are free to take the free time in the cafeteria.

Please see attached workbooks and prerequisites for more details. Scouts can find worksheet for the merit badge(s) online (see www.meritbadge.org or www.usscouts.org (in advancement section)). NOTE: Many merit badges were updated on January of 2025, as a result attached worksheets may not be accurate. You are responsible for the current requirements. Those can be found at the National Merit Badge site here.

A Scout is Trustworthy!  Please be advised that Counselors know, and are aware, of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI, like ChatGPT).  A Scout will have more confidence, and knowledge, if he/she does the homework and research themselves; do not attempt to use AI for prerequisites.

Patch included for Scouts.

Scouts must bring a lunch and completed Merit Badge workbooks, as required by Counselors.  Workbooks will be checked for completed prerequisites upon event-check in.  Dress is Class A uniforms.

Registration Information: When registering you will need the date of birth for each Scout (some classes have minimum age) and their Member ID. If a Unit leader is creating the registration and logged in, they should see it in the Unit Roster and it will autofill when that Scout is selected. You can also find this in my.Scouting.org (Unit Roster or profile) or Scoutbook Plus in the roster. The Great Falls Council will upload the advancement data for all GFC Units shortly after the event has ended.

We will not be accepting walk-ins.  Charge is $15 per Scout, until March 20th.  Late fee of $20 ends March 26th with final registration.

After registration you will receive a conformation email. If you don't, please check your spam folder. Look for an email from no-reply@247scouting.org
