BECOME A CERTIFIED NRA

RANGE SAFETY OFFICER

This is an opportunity to become a NRA Certified Range Safety Officer (RSO). If you will ever be running a range this certification is for you. The Great Falls Council, SA is sponsoring a RSO course. During the class we will be talking about, What is a Range Safety Officer?, The purpose of a Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Procedures for inspecting a range, Conducting a Range Safety Briefing, Emergency Procedures, how to safely unload guns and correct stoppages and malfunctions.  The course takes about 5-6 hours to complete, there is a test at the end, (don’t panic) it is an open book test, and we will cover everything that is on the test.

We will not be shooting any firearms, I know bummer, but this is how to run a range. 

You will need to bring writing utensils, paper for notes, a lunch, and whatever you want to drink for the day, I will have some snacks.

After you complete the course you will have to go to the NRA instructor training site to get your credentials as with everything else there is a cost, if you are an NRA member the cost to get your credentials is $40 and is renewed every 2 years at a cost of $40, if you are not a NRA member the cost for your credentials is $175 and renewal is $40 every 2 years, I am not trying to get you to join the NRA I just did not want to surprise you when you go to get your credentials. If you want to join you can go to the NRA web site and signup. If you do join please bring the NRA member number with you to the class.

The course date and location is August 22, 2026, at Camp Scouthaven which is located at 10784  NY-98, Freedom, NY 14065   The class will run from 9:00AM – 3:00 PM
