National Youth Leadership Training 2025
NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide all First Class and above BSA Scouts and Venturing/Sea Scouts with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home unit and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. NYLT is a week-long outdoor experience for current and future Troop, Crew, and Ship leaders. It utilizes the patrol method which is easily applied to Crews and Ships. It presents leadership skills in multiple formats providing the opportunity for participants to live and practice these leadership skills. Nearly all of the training is conducted by the youth staff. The course follows Scouting America’s National Youth Leadership Training Curriculum.
NYLT is a six-day course. The six-day course schedule parallels the program month of a typical Scouting unit. The patrol method is used extensively throughout the training. Patrols are on their own to set up campsites, cook meals, and carry out other activities without direct adult supervision. A Troop Guide is assigned to each patrol to advise and be a resource to the participants throughout the learning process. The Troop setting provides an opportunity for youth to practice the newly learned skills providing the home unit with improved effectiveness and enthusiasm from the youth leaders. Troop instructors will help guide their learning. The training guidelines and rules are the same for those found in the Scout Oath & Law, the Outdoor Code, and other national and council practices and procedures
Lounghouse Council and Leatherstocking Council are cohosting our 2025 Course at Camp Woodland in Constantia, NY, August 3-8
