Everyone loves trains, and our district’s Scouts are no exception!

This Fall, the Taughannock District will be holding a special event on the Dryden Rail Trail. This
will be a fun activity for existing Scouts, and a great opportunity for Troops to recruit
new members, as your Scouts can invite their friends and get incentives for doing so.

Along the trail, Scouts will take part in interesting and fun activities at various stations
- we’re currently planning about 20 stations for Scouts. The stations will include
games, skills and fitness competitions, demonstrations and encounters with historical
figures, all on a railway theme. A list of the stations and their locations is on the back
of the flyer linkd to the right. While hiking the trail, Scouts will be able to complete a number of the requirements
for Railroading Merit Badge, and we’ll have a counselor on hand at the
end of the trail for them to meet and make arrangements for completing the badge.

Scouts will start at Freeville and hike five miles to Dryden Lake Park. Check-in and
registration will be at the end of the trail, at Dryden Lake Park Pavilion. If a Troop
wants to add an evening or two’s camping, you’re welcome to camp at Mike Brown’s
pond in Harford - it’s another 6½ miles further down the former rail line, or you can
pick the Scouts up and drive there.

Troops who are planning to attend the event should submit a Scout Registration Form to AllAboard@TCScouts.org so that we know you're coming. Each Troop should plan to provide at least one adult leader (or older Scout, for Troops) to help with one of the stations. Please indicate which station(s) you'd be interested in on the Registration Form

After Registration, each Registrant will be contacted by email to ensure each participant has their starting station and departure time finalized.
