20th Annual 10 Commandments Hike
The Baden-Powell Duty to God Committee is planning our 20th annual council-wide 10 Commandments Hike. Cub Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, Girl Scouts, Families of Scouts and Church Youth Groups are welcome and invited to attend.
Cost is $7 per person or $25 max per family (includes lunch!)
Participants meet at a designated house of worship, register, and have one commandment explained by the pastor or the pastor's designee. Then Scouts and others "hike" to each of the remaining 9 houses of worship, where another commandment will be discussed and a little about the faith/denomination/parish/worship community will be explained. At the end of the hike, participants will receive a 10 Commandments Hike patch, will be aware of Scout religious awards and will have a basic understanding of the 10 Commandments. The hike will include 10 different churches covering multiple denominations in and around the Lansing area. The starting point will be at Asbury Church, 2978 N. Triphammer Rd., Lansing, NY.
Check-in will begin at 8:30 AM and the event will conclude mid-afternoon. A scant lunch to include chicken noodle soup, chips, apples and a cold cut sandwich with cheese will be provided. If you have dietary restrictions, please ensure you pack something to supplement what you cannot eat. Routes to the 10 churches will be established for groups of Scouts and their families, or for youth groups according to the age ranges of the youth participants. The total route is expected to be between 2 and 3 miles of hiking and will include some driving between sites as well. Advance registration is required and will help us get a more accurate count so we are able to order enough patches. There is also an option online to purchase "Duty to God" diamond patches for $3.50 each.
