The Good Scout Award is presented annually to one business and one individual that exemplify the ideals of Scouting America as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law.  Recipients are chosen for their outstanding community service, leadership, and the esteem in which they are held by their peers.

Our 2026 honorees are:

Dannemora Federal Credit Union
https://www.dfcu.net

Serving the Adirondack community for over 60 years, Dannemora Federal Credit Union has over 20,000 members and over $220 million in assets.  DFCU provides financial services to members throughout Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and St. Lawrence Counties.  Its employees are continually volunteering to help local churches, clubs, community sports teams, veterans, seniors, public media, and service organizations.

By partnering with multiple schools in the area, DFCU is able to provide financial literacy seminars to students of all ages. They support after-prom parties and sponsor the Backpack Program, equipping students with a backpack filled with staple foods for the weekend. Their generosity is further evidenced by extensive charitable contributions to a wide array of community organizations.

Jeffrey Chauvin

From 2014-2025 Jeffrey Chauvin chaired the Adirondack District of Twin Rivers Council, Scouting America.  In this role he led volunteers and Scouts to plan and accomplish phenomenal programs such as multi-county camporees, Pinewood Derby car races, Klondike Derby winter skills challenges, countless community service projects, and Scout collaborations with other nonprofit organizations.  Jeffrey did not simply delegate; he rolled up his sleeves time and time again, leading by example with cheerful service and dedicated effort.

For over a decade prior to his District Chair role, Jeffrey served as a committee member and Committee Chair of Troop 8046 of Beekmantown, the Advisor to Venturing Crew 8046, and a District Camping Committee member.  He was a member of the Twin Rivers Council Executive Board, where he served various roles including New Member Coordinator.  Jeffrey’s efforts with Scouting continue today, and his leadership has been a deeply positive inspiration for adults and youth alike.

Our Event Chair is Edward Kirby

As a member of the Twin Rivers Council Executive Board and an active leader in Pack and Troop 8039, Edward Kirby continues his decades-long service to the youth of Scouting America.  Previously Edward served as Council Vice President, as a Cub Scout Den Leader, and as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 8066.  He is a passionate community volunteer lending his time and talent to Rotary, the Elks, American Legion, Clinton Masonic Charities, SPARCC, youth sports, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Strand Center for the Arts.  Edward is the General Manager of GMC Skincare in Plattsburgh.  His goal is to build a better place for all to live.
