Event Details

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Training

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Training

July 18, 2026 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM

Rotary Scout Reservation | Averill Park, NY

Be prepared when help is hours away. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training equips participants with the skills and confidence to respond to medical emergencies in remote or backcountry settings where professional medical care may be delayed.

This two-part hybrid course has an online portion and in-person skills course. The online portion, hosted by our certifying organization, ECSI, must be completed prior to taking the in-person skills course. Link to the online course is here and a guide is attached.

The in-person skills course focuses on realistic scenarios, hands-on practice, and decision-making skills needed to assess injuries, stabilize patients, and manage emergencies until help arrives. The course meets Scouting America and national outdoor program standards and is ideal for those leading or participating in outdoor adventures.

A valid CPR card earned within the past 2-years is required to complete the Wilderness First Aid training. A CPR course will be offered after the in-person skills course for an additional fee.

Who Should Take This Training?

Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and unit leaders participating in high-adventure or remote outings

Adult leaders and youth (as age-appropriate) attending backcountry treks, backpacking trips, or long-term camps

Camp staff, NYLT staff, and high-adventure advisors

Anyone responsible for health and safety during outdoor or wilderness activities

Why Take Wilderness First Aid?
