Fishing Basic

Come Learn how to get your Cub Scouts out fishing. Be prepared for the new Cub Scout Adventures.

Why take this 1-hour course?

Learn what is needed for Cub Scout Adventures coming June 1, 2024, a new program.

But I have never fished before!

We will teach you everything to get started with your cub fishing program.

What will you cover?

Fishing knots

Fishing Rod setup

Fishing Safely

Baiting hooks

Casting

Catching

Gear for fishing

Getting your catch off the hook and safely releasing them back into the water.

Types of common fishing rod outfits to use with Cubs.

Indoor fishing activities using Back Yard Bass.

On June 1st the Cub Scout Adventure Program is being released. There are elective fishing adventures at every level of Cub Scouts. The new program is much more than a Bear Goes Fishing. The focus of the new program is to get Cub Scouts outdoors and work to transition them successfully into Scouts BSA Troops.

Once we cover the fishing basics slide show we will take what you have learned outdoors to practice casting, tying hooks onto a line, and tying the line onto the fishing rod. You will leave the training session with confidence knowing what to do to hold a fishing event for your den or pack.

[I am a bit biased, but I believe that fishing is the best way to recruit new youth in your unit.]

Fishing is a top 5 requested activity for both Cubs and Scouts BSA. Scouts want to fish! So why not take them out and have more fun?  It is also a great way to recruit and retain your Scouts longer in the program.  Fishing is also a great way to enhance your outdoor program, like hiking, camping, and boating.
