Leave No Trace Master Educator

Event Details

What - The Leave No Trace Master Educator Course provides outdoor, hands on, experiential learning in Outdoor Ethics focusing on the seven Leave No Trace principles for BSA Scouters and Venturers age 18 and older.

 

When – Two weekends of September 20-22 and October 11-13, 2019. Attendance is required on both weekends. The second weekend includes three nights of camping and hiking.

 

Where –: Winnebago Scout Reservation (Patriots’ Path Council)

 

Registration/Cost –Total cost for the course is $275.00, ($250.00 paid with registration and $25.00 paid at the first weekend.) The course fee which covers the course, food, materials and BSA awards. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Register at Patriots’ Path Council website-

 

What you need to bring – your personal gear and paperwork. Participants should be familiar with basic camping and hiking skills; you will need to bring your own gear. You will also be responsible for a 20 minute presentation and will need to bring your teaching activity/learning exercise materials. A BSA medical form is required.

Upon successful completion of this course each participant will qualify as a Leave No Trace Master Educator and will be able to:                   

 - Conduct Leave No Trace and Outdoor Ethics Awareness Workshops and Trainer Courses

 - Support the designated Troop or Crew Outdoor Ethics Guide

 - Serve as a qualified Merit Badge Counselor for one of the ever increasing list of merit badges that include Leave No Trace as one of the requirements.

- Lead discussions on outdoor ethics, and help others explore and possibly help guide them toward raising their own personal outdoor ethical standards.


The Value of the Leave No Trace Master Educator Course

 

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an educational organization endorsed by the National Parks Service, United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Army Core of Engineers. The Boy Scouts of America partners with the Leave No Trace Center to offer Leave No Trace Trainer and Master Educator courses.

The Leave No Trace Master Educator Course is a vital component of the worldwide Leave No Trace program, and the BSA program. Participants receive in-depth, hands on training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics in an outdoor field environment. The Master Educator Course assists the participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for teaching and using these skills in both the back country and front country.
