Okpik Winter Camping Experience is intended to teach youth participants how to have fun and thrive in the cold!  In 2026 we are offering three levels of adventure; Okpik Snowbirds, Okpik Adventurers & Okpik Explorers!  See the description below for more information about each program including participation requirements. The Snowbirds & Adventurers programs are organized to help you acquire skills and experience which you can bring back to your Troop, Crew, or Ship.  The Okpik Snowbirds program will participate in the outdoor program and skill building activities but sleep indoors both nights.  The Okpik Adventurers will build on their existing skills, participate in the winter programs, and sleep one night indoors and one outdoors!  The Okpik Explorers program is a back country camping adventure to use the advanced skills previously learned in the Okpik Adventurers program.  The Okpik Explorers will arrive, check gear and head out into the GSR back country for a two night winter camping adventure!  All planned Okpik programs are subject to change & weather.  
 
Okpik Snowbirds program includes:  Shelter building, snowshoeing, cold weather cooking, winter games, ice fishing, hiking, night sky viewing and more!  Open to all Scouts, Sea Scouts & Venturers age 12+
 
Okpik Adventurers program includes:  Shelter building, snowshoeing, cold weather cooking, winter games, ice fishing, hiking, night sky viewing and more!  Open to all Scouts, Sea Scouts & Venturers ages 14+ or to participants who have previously sucessfully completed the Snowbirds program.   

Okpik Explorers program includes:  Hiking, snowshoeing, cold weather cooking & night sky viewing. Open to all 14+ Scouts, Sea Scouts & Venturers that have previously sucessfully completed the Okpik Adventurers program.  This program is a back country camping expedition that will test your skills and build your confidence.  You will arrive, assemble with your assigned crew, requisition patrol gear, do a quick shakedown, safety review and then depart for your back country adventure!  Participants must conform to the Height & Weight restrictions outlines in Part C of the Annual Health & Medical Record.  Please review Part C to ensure compliance before registering.  Participation in Okpik Explorers is limited to those youth who have previopusly completed the Okpik Adventurers program.
