Who: Scouts (13+) and Adults registered with Scouting American
NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting
Learn the basic Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary to successfully shoot a moving target with a shotgun. The NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting (BoSS) course covers basic firearms safety and handling, common shotgun action and ammunition types, common stoppages and malfunctions as well as the fundamentals of shooting a moving target such as stance, movement, lead, and follow-through. Open to anyone registered with Scouting American 13 years of age or older (Yes Scouts, that includes you!) the course will cover the majority of the requirements for the Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge and provide an NRA certificate of completion necessary to take the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting Instructor Course.
An NRA Certified Shotgun Instructor is required to supervise any handling or instruction involving Shotguns in Scouting American, and one of the two required qualified supervision personnel to supervise any shotgun shooting activities.

Participants for the NRA Instructor Weekend must have successfully completed the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting and NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting course prior to taking the respective Instructor courses.
