NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting

Saturday March 22, 2025,  from 8am to 6pm At Hidden Valley Administration Building & Hidden Valley Ranges 

Cost: $75, Coffee and snacks provide, bring your own lunch.

Who: Scouts registered with a Troop, Ship, or Crew, and Adults registered with Scouting America

 

NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting

Learn the basic Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary to successfully shoot a target with a rifle.  The NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting (BoRS) course covers basic firearms safety and handling, common rifle action and ammunition types, common stoppages and malfunctions as well as the fundamentals of shooting a stationary target from a prone, standing, and benchrest  position such as Position, Sight Alignment, Sight Picture, Hold Control, Breath Control, Trigger Control, and Follow-Through. Open to all Scouting American adults, and Scouts registered with a Troop, Ship, or Crew, (Yes Scouts, that includes you!) the course will cover the majority of the requirements for the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge and provide an NRA certificate of completion necessary to take the NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting Instructor Course.

An NRA Certified Rifle Instructor is required to supervise any handling or instruction involving Rifles in Scouting American, and one of the two required qualified supervision personnel to supervise any rifle shooting activities.

NRA Shotgun and Rifle Instructor Weekend is being offered at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation in Rutland, MA April 11 - April 13 through National Camping School:  https://www.scouting.org/outdoor-programs/range-activities/  (Scroll down to the NRA Instructor Weekend Training - Course Listings) 

Participants for the NRA Instructor Weekend must have successfully completed the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting and NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting course prior to taking the respective Instructor courses.
