Spring 2026 SLAW - IOLS / Scout Leader Specific Training
Event Details

Scout Leader Adventure Weekend (SLAW)
Scout Leader Adventure Weekend is designed for Scouts BSA leaders in mind.
- The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors. Specifically, this hands-on program gives adult leaders a practical introduction to the patrol method of a Scout-led troop by teaching many of the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of- doors. In addition, the teaching methods, activities, and games model the variety of teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs. This is an overnight training and will require participants to camp out. Part A and B of the BSA medical form will be required to be brought with you upon arrival.
- Scoutleader Position-Specific Training is a course that gives Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters, and Committee members the basic tools to lead a Scouts BSA troop successfully. It focuses on the essentials of leadership, such as the Patrol Method, troop organization, advancement, and annual planning. While it can be completed online through the BSA Learn Center on my.scouting.org, this in-person training event offers the added benefit of meeting and sharing ideas with other leaders.
You can register for IOLS or Scout Leader Specific Training, or both.
