Scouts BSA (Ages 11-17) - Begin to Earn Your Fly Fishing Merit Badge

Two dates are being offered April 11th & May 9th, 2026

Pick one date to start your Merit Badge. Limit of 20 students per day.

Register by end of day, March 26th.

April 11th 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, please arrive by 9:15 am. The Merit Badge will have four sessions in the day, each a hour long, with a hour lunch break. Must bring your own lunch. Water and simple snacks will be provided.

May 9th 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, please arrive by 9:15 am. The Merit Badge will have four sessions in the day, each a hour long, with a hour lunch break. Must bring your own lunch. Water and simple snacks will be provided.

Sessions will focus on:

1. Knots
2. Fly tying
3. Casting 
4. Bugs and reading the water

For Youth 12 years-of-age and older, a fishing license will be needed to finish the Merit Badge but won't be needed the day of the course offered here. 

Location is Crystal Peak Park in Verdi.

Cost:

$20 registration fee if you bring your own rod & reel.  (Cost subject to change as this is 2025 cost)

$65 registration fee to receive a rod and reel combo set with carrying bag. (Cost subject to change as this is 2025 cost)

Combo set will include: 8-foot 5/6-weight 3-piece fly fishing rod, size 5/6 rim-control reel, pre-spooled with backing, line and leader, includes custom fly tackle assortment, brown/green.

Work towards your Fly Fishing Merit Badge, which will require additional fishing experiences & catching, and signed off by a counselor.

A parent, qualified adult, or unit leader is required to attend.

No adult fee. Adults will not participate.
