Class Sessions Course Descriptions
9:00
A-1: Welcoming New Scouts/Parents
Welcoming new Scouts and parents requires a personal touch, clear communication, and
immediate engagement to build trust and prevent early dropout. Ideas to consider: host an informal
orientation, assign buddies, provide a "new family" guide, and clearly outline meeting details and
volunteer roles. Key actions include creating a "Welcome Kit," hosting a welcomoe ceremony for
new Scouts, and ensuring leaders are approachable for questions.
A-2: Interfaith Worship
Interfaith worship in Scouting is a voluntary, non-denominational 10-20 minute service, often held
during camping trips to foster reverence, unity, and reflection. It serves all denominations through
inclusive, theme-based, and simple content (songs, prayers, stories), typically led by adults for
Cubs or by youth for Scouts. The service adheres to the 12th point of the Scout Law ("A Scout is
Reverent") without promoting specific doctrines, aiming for a "cheery and varied" experience that
respects all beliefs.
A-3: Large Group Management
This session will include how to set expectations for your large group and give you some tools to
help calm the chaos at your meetings. In addition to helping with your groups of scouts, we will
also discuss managing your groups of adults.
A-4: Trail to First Class
Let’s walk through the rank progression from Scout to First Class, focusing on the core skills,
expectations, and typical timeline scouts follow. We will discuss the essential patrol-method
activities, required scoutcraft proficiencies (e.g., camping, knots, first aid), and how parents can
support practice, transportation, and encouragement without taking over leadership. The session
also covers record-keeping basics so parents know how advancement is tracked and what to
expect at each troop review.
A-5: Trail Readiness and Planning
Get trail-ready with this introduction to backpacking leadership and trip planning for adults. Build
confidence through real-world scenarios and practical strategies you can use immediately to
support safe, successful treks. Whether you’re new to backpacking or refining your skills, this
workshop is your first step toward the trail.
A-6: Roundtable - Q&A and Trading Post Time
Great opportunity to sit down and ask questions about anything you might be wondering about...
There's no such thing as a silly question! An experienced Scouter will be available during each
class session to help facilitate the discussions, and the Trading Post will also be open for business
to pick up resources to support your program. Possible topics you might want to talk about...
dealing with gaps in age or rank, lack of parent involvement, ScoutbookPlus, fundraising,
Cubmaster/Scoutmaster Minutes, ceremonies, what are BALOO and IOLS and why are they
needed, why is Wood Badge such an amazing program, leader training knots, online resources to
help make leading a den, pack, troop, crew, or ship easier...

B-1: Flag Ceremonies for Scouts
Presenting the colors before each Scouting event reaffirms the duty that we have to our country. It
reminds us of the respect we should hold for our nation’s ideals, people, land, history, and future.
By holding a proper flag ceremony, you’ll instill in your troop the values of contribution and
citizenship. Whether you’re hoisting, lowering, folding, or even just holding the American flag, there
are strict guidelines that should always be followed. After all, our flag is a symbol of yourself, your
community, and your country!
B-2: Dutch Oven Cooking
Learn how you and your Scouts can make delectable Dutch oven creations at your next campout.
A Dutch oven is such a versatile cooking tool that when you bring one to camp, it’s like bringing the
kitchen from home. It can be used to fry, sauté, bake, stew, roast or slow-cook — any time of day
and for nearly any type of meal. It’s not uncommon for a single recipe to involve several cooking
methods using the same oven.
B-3: AOL to Troop Transition
The most tenuous stage of a Scout's career is their transition from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA. This
session is geared to help both leadership groups prepare Arrow of Light Scouts and their parents
for this transition.
B-4: Trail to Eagle
This class explains the full path to Eagle Scout: merit badge requirements, leadership roles, and
the mandatory Eagle Scout service project, plus the timeline and documentation needed. It
emphasizes the importance of planning, adult mentorship, and maintaining good records (merit
badge cards, project paperwork, advancement logs) to avoid delays. The session also outlines
how parents can help—by coaching, ensuring training/compliance, and supporting leadership
development—while leaving youth-led leadership in the scouts’ hands.
B-5: Gear, Clothing, and Pack Management
Learn how to pack lighter, dress smarter, and manage your gear for a more comfortable
backpacking experience. This workshop shows how small choices in gear and packing can make a
big difference on the trail.
B-6: Roundtable - Q&A and Trading Post Time
Great opportunity to sit down and ask questions about anything you might be wondering about...

C-1: Flag Ceremonies for Cubs
Cub Scout flag ceremonies instill youth with respect for the US flag, as well as a sense of
patriotism. Making flag ceremonies a regular part of pack events teaches Cubs the values of
citizenship and national pride in a memorable, interactive way. Embrace this opportunity for the
Cub Scouts to learn discipline, attention to detail, honor, and respect for the many generations of
men and women who built the country we call home.
C-2: Campfire Program Planning
Whether your campfire is a camporee extravaganza for an audience of 500 or a circle of a dozen
Scouts and adults, a little planning can go a long way. Consider the four S’s: showmanship, skits,
songs and stories. Get it right, and treat yourself and your Scouts to a fifth S: s’mores.
C-3: Scouts with Additional Needs ("Neuro-Spicy")
Learn some tried and true tricks to help support Scouts with different needs. We will share
resources from the official toolbox, as well as things that we have successfully implemented in our
own Pack and Troop.
C-4: Eagle Process
Do you want to learn the details of the Eagle Process? This one-hour class walks parents through
the detailed administrative and procedural steps of earning Eagle, from preparing and submitting
the project proposal to finalizing the Eagle application packet. It covers approvals, paperwork,
signatures, time expectations, and common pitfalls that delay projects. The class also reviews how
to assemble the final report and official Eagle binder so scouts are set up for a smooth Eagle
Board of Review experience.
C-5: Back Country Living and Leave No Trace
This workshop focuses on how to live well in the backcountry while protecting the outdoors for
those who come after us. You’ll gain practical skills for responsible camping, cleanliness on the
trail, and handling common backcountry challenges.

each meeting is a breeze!
D-2: Team-Building Games for Packs or Troops

how to lead better and give them things to work on in the future. Scouts will learn more about
themselves playing these games while having fun it the process.
D-3: Religious Emblems Program
The Religious Emblems programs are developed by the individual faith groups to encourage their
members to grow stronger in their faith. Scouting America has approved of these programs and
allows the emblems to be worn on the official uniform, but the emblems are administered by the
various religious groups, not by Scouting America.
D-4: ScoutbookPlus for Cub Scouts
Scoutbook Plus is the updated, mandatory platform for managing Cub Scout advancement,
replacing older systems with a, faster, adventure-based interface. Leaders can track progress,
approve, and award loops/pins directly within the system, while parents can view records. It
automatically syncs with my.scouting.org to manage rosters. There are so many details to keep
track of that a tutorial can be very helpful. Bring your questions.
D-5: Food and Water for Backpacking
Learn how to stay fueled and hydrated in the backcountry with this hands-on food and water
workshop. Build confidence using water treatment systems, backpacking stoves, and simple trail
meals that work on real trips. You’ll practice essential skills and pick up tips to make camp cooking
easier and more enjoyable.

it is no problem making a calendar for a brand new unit.
E-2: Scouting for Food 101 - A "How-To" Guide
Scouting for Food 101 is an introductory presentation that teaches Scouters the importance of
community service through food collection and distribution. It covers how to plan, promote, and
execute a successful food drive to support local food banks. Scouters will also learn teamwork,
leadership, and the lasting impact their efforts can have on families in need.
E-3: Scout Songs
Do you know any awesome Scout songs to sing at your next den meeting, pack meeting, troop
meeting, or camp? You will! There are a ton of songs associated with Scouting, such as repeatafter-
me’s, funny tunes, cheers of increasing loudness, and more!
E-4: ScoutbookPlus for Troops
Scoutbook Plus (formerly Internet Advancement 2.0) is Scouting America's updated, web-based
unit management tool for Scouts BSA, designed to track advancement, merit badges, and
activities. It offers enhanced, user-friendly, and faster functionality compared to the older system
for leaders, parents, and Scouts to manage records. Scoutbook Plus is increasingly replacing
legacy systems for troop management, with a focus on a more modern user interface and faster
performance.
E-5: Women in the Woods: Hygiene in the Outdoors
This supportive, open discussion is designed to address the unique questions and considerations
women have when backpacking. We’ll cover practical hygiene strategies, comfort on the trail, and
common concerns that don’t always get talked about in mixed groups. Whether you’re backpacking
yourself or supporting women on the trail, this workshop creates space for honest conversation
