Mid-America Council Outdoor Training Conference

This weekend will be a one-stop shop for many of the outdoor-based training courses available in Scouting America.  All levels of Scouting leaders are welcome to attend.  A luncheon on Saturday  is included in all courses.

When:  Friday, May 1 - Sunday, May 3, 2026 (times vary for each course below)

Where:  Camp Cedars - 2898 Tom Lee Rd, Omaha, NE 68015

Cost:  varies for each course to cover training materials and any meals

Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

Wilderness first aid (WFA) is a course for youth and adults planning a remote high adventure ranging from lay responders to medical professionals.  It focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment for an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. This is defined as being an hour or more away from advanced care.  This training may be required for those attending a National High Adventure Base.  Certification will be provided through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI).  

**Youth MUST be age 14 and up or 1st Class - must be able to participate in class room and outdoor activities without supervision, being able to complete assignments and contribute to discussions in a mature manner.  Participants must have also completed a CPR and AED certificaiton course prior to participation.

When:  Friday, May 1, 6 PM - Sunday, May 3, 12 PM

Cost:  $100 per participant

Includes: Friday Cracker Barrel, Saturday Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Sunday Breakfast, WFA Trail Guidebook

Suggested PERSONAL OVERNIGHT CAMPING GEAR

  •     OUTDOOR ESSENTIALS - Pocketknife, First-aid kit, Extra clothing, Rain gear, Water bottle filled with potable water, Flashlight, Matches and fire starters, Sun protection, Map and compass, Clothing for the season (warm-weather or cold-weather), Backpack, Rain cover for backpack, sleeping bag, or two or three blankets, Sleeping pad, and Ground cloth
  •     EATING KIT -  Spoon, Plate, Bowl, Cup
  •     CLEANUP KIT - Soap, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Dental floss, Comb, Washcloth, Towel

Optional PERSONAL EXTRASWatch, Camera, Notebook or paper, Pencil or pen, Sunglasses, Small musical instrument, Swimsuit, Gloves

 

CPR Certification & First Aid
Be prepared in the event of an emergency or ready to help teach the CPR basic skills required for many advancements.  Certification will be provided through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI).  (Offering 2 seperate sessions)

When:  Saturday, May 2

Morning Session: 9 AM - 12 PM

Cost:  $45 per participant 

Includes: Certification

 

Rangemaster Training

Shooting sports are exciting and fun for Scouts of all ages, and our Cub Scout and Webelos day camps and resident camps are just around the corner. Please make sure that your staff is properly trained on how to operate a safe shooting sports program.  

**Must be at least 18 to be able to take course, become certified and run the range

When:  Saturday, May 2

Morning Session: 9 AM - 12 PM

Cost:  $10 per participant
