Seven Feathers District Pinewood Derby

Overview Information: for final reschedule of SF District Pinewood Derby. To be held May 23rd Online
Cubmasters and derby participants, the postponement and re-scheduling of the District Pinewood Derby has been a difficult and heartbreaking process. The state recommendations for large groups have not been altered and at this time the location selected for the derby in Beatrice is still locked down with rentals suspended. After much discussion and logistical planning, we have determined to continue the race, however in the interest of public and volunteer health, the SFPWD for 2020 will be conducted in an “Online Viewing” format. Registration for both vehicles and the purchase of t-shirts has been reopened, so if a scout was not participation due to the travel and requirement to be present those barriers have now been removed for the 2020 race. Registered race and show cars will be collected and turned into cubmasters by May 20 via the procedures outlined below, then will be collected and taken to the OEC by your District Executive. The race itself will be run on May 23rd with the final “sweet 16” races broadcast via an online link to participants in their families. This link will be provided to both the Participants and Cubmasters The awards for Show and race winners will be broadcast at this time as well. Here are the directions and break down of the next few weeks.
Health and Safety:
We would like to reduce the amount of exposure to any volunteer or Scout during drop off. In reference to health and safety we have been informed by medical personnel the virus will not last longer than 48 hours on surface materials. We would ask that you take the appropriate measures for you and your scouts to reduce the amount of people at drop-off and wear personal protective gear to include gloves and/or masks.
How to Drop Off with Pack:
1. Keeping Health and Safety measures in mind. Cubmasters or a designated person should have a collection point. This most likely would be in your driveway…etc. We suggest the following.
2. Bring the cars to your cub master at the prearranged time prior to May 20th.
3. Your car should be wrapped in a protective barrier like paper towel or bubble wrap and put in a
Ziplock style bag with your name, pack number, phone number, and weather the car is registered for race or show written in a piece of paper or index card.
4. In the weeks after the race your car will be returned in this bag to your cub master along with your derby patch, t-shirt if you ordered one and any awards that you may have received
Storage and Disinfectant:
The cars will be stored at the OEC until held in quarantine for a few days post race As an additional protective measure, a small amount of disinfectant will be sprayed in the totes and cars will be placed in UV light to help destroy any remaining virus.
Show Cars:
All show cars must be checked in, in order to be judged. A picture will be taken at the same 2 angles (side and front-see photo) by the same photographer after checking in. These will be posted and will be voted on by scouts in their age group via online vote except for the celebrity judge categories. vote by clicking one like on the district Facebook page pictures https://www.facebook.com/sevenfeathersdistrict/
Weights and Measurements:
Cars will be weighed and measured on May 23 by the SFPWD Race team with official scales.
Alterations:
Dropping off your race car lets us know you authorize the committee to make any modifications needed to get the correct weight of size will be taken. This “could” be in the form of a hole drilled in the bottom, snapping off weight or piece of car to reduce weight. The event team will do everything possible to be careful to not affect the overall appearance of the car and if weight need to be removed to remove only enough material to bring the car to the maximum weight allowance. Click here for all district rules.
If you do not want your car adjusted by the committee. You must write this on the outside of you Ziplock bag. “DO NOT ADJUST” With the understanding if your car does not meet the standards as stated in the all district rules for 2020 the car WILL NOT be allowed to race
