2022 District Pinewood Derby Race!


Start your engines Cub Scouts!!! This year the Annual Prairie Winds District Pinewood Derby will be held at the Holthus Event Center in York! This is a corporate sponsored event with incentives galore! This year will feature themed prizes and the largest Trophies in the Council! 
Save the Date! Race Day is Saturday February 26th 2022!

This year, all registered participants will have an opportunity to win Pokemon Themed Prizes! Challenges and raffles the day of the derby will allow all racers and show car participants a chance to win multiple booster packs, tins and mystery prizes!

All registered participants will receive a booster pack of cards, which contains ten Pokemon cards and a guaranteed Holographic card as they check into the Holthus Convention Center Ballroom A.”


Basic Rules Summary:
• Each pack may send up to 12 participants in the Race category- Either the 12 fastest overall times or the fastest times from each den level
• Each pack may send up to 12 participants in the Show category.
• The Pinewood Derby is open to registered Cub Scouts Lion through Arrow of Light.
• All Scouts must wear “Field Uniform” (official BSA shirt & neckerchief) on race day.
• Use the axles, wheels, and body wood provided in the Official Pinewood Derby Kit. Official BSA Derby Wheels of other colors may be substituted. Additional materials can be added to the car.
• Weights and Measurement REQUIREMENTS FOR RACE
o The width between the wheels shall be at least 1¾ inch.
o The width of the car shall not exceed 2¾ inches.
o The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
o The nose/front of the car must be flat (not pointed) for at least ½” in the center of the nose of the car where it contacts the track starting gate guide post.  No part of the car’s body or attachments can extend beyond the front nose of the car.
o The height of the car shall not exceed 5.5 inches so that it can clear the timing device.
o The car shall not exceed 5.00 ounces (141.75 grams) as weighed by the official race scale(s).
• All four axles and wheels must be attached to the car in the axle slots as provided in the official Pinewood Derby Kit. At least three of the wheels must contact the track surface.
• Axle slots can be straightened or deepened if necessary, but the wheelbase cannot be changed.
• The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices (starting devices include, but are not limited to, magnets or adhesive on the nose of the car). Electrical devices cannot be utilized in a way that enhances the speed performance of the vehicle. No compressed gas or propellant can be utilized. No wind-up...gravity as only force to motivate car. No propulsion systems beyond gravity.
• All SHOW CARS must comply with the full set of car rules, including size restrictions. Any additions to the car must be within length, width, and weight limits.
• Show car categories are open classed and not restricted to themes this year! We will have a Best in Show Champion and 2nd thru 6th place.
• Show Car participants must interview with the panel of judges for 2 minutes. Two
 questions will be asked:
o Describe your show design and why you choose it.
o Describe the process of building and designing your car.
