What: The Chris Walston Memorial Scholarship Fun Run is a 5K color trail run or 1 mile run/walk. The proceeds will provide college scholarships for summer camp staff members at Camp Augustine.

When/Where: It will be held at Camp Augustine on September 21, 2019. Check in begins at 8:00 AM and the run starts at 9:00 AM.

Cost: Cost for the 5K is $30 for adults and $25 for youth for the color run (includes t-shirt, color powder, bracelet, and glasses), or $25 for adults and $20 for youth for just the run (everything but the color powder).

Cost for the 1 mile run/walk is $15.

About Chris: Chris Walston was a resident of Hastings, Nebraska. He attended Hastings High School where he was on the football team. Chris was a member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 207 and the Order of the Arrow. He achieved the rank of Life Scout. Chris started attending Camp Augustine as a Cub Scout. He joined the Camp Augustine staff family as a Counselor-In-Training (CIT) in the summer of 2016. He was an Outdoor Skills and Ecology instructor for the next two summers teaching classes such as cooking and fishing. Outside of program class time, Chris could be found at the center of any mischief happening around camp.He loved spending time outdoors and sitting around a campfire. He always wore a yellow hat, which became his trademark on camp. Campers remember him as the staff member with the yellow hat. What Chris lacked in height, he made up in personality and energy. He was a leader among his peers. Others would follow his lead when he was coming up with his crazy ideas. He had an infectious smile that was especially prominent when he was up to no good. Chris was outgoing and loved by the campers. Tragically, Chris completed suicide at the end of the summer in 2018. He is loved and missed by many.

About Camp Augustine: Camp Augustine is a 160-acre camp along the banks of the Platte River between Grand Island and Doniphan, Nebraska. It offers summer programs throughout June and July and is open the rest of the year for events and unit camping.

About the Chris Walston Memorial Camp Staff Scholarship: The scholarship provides college scholarships to camp staff. This allows camp to hire and retain older and more capable staff members.
