This year the Black Otter Pinewood Derby will feature two classes of racing: Cub Scout Class and Open Class. They must follow the Montana Council Pinewood Derby Rules.
There will also be two show classes: Cub Scout Show Class and Open Show Class.
Each Pack can submit up to four cars in each speed class, and up to three in each show class for a total of 14 cars per Pack.
Each Pack will have ONE registration for all of their racers
Cub Scout Speed Class
For all registered Cub Scouts, Lion through Arrow of Light. The cars must comply with the Montana Council Pinewood Derby rules for Cub Scout Class. This class is for speed. Send (up to) your 4 fastest cars.
Open Speed Class
Open to all cars that comply with the Montana Council Pinewood Derby rules for Open Class. This class is for speed. Send (up to) your 4 Fastest cars.
Cub Scout Show Class
For all registered Cub Scouts Lion though Arrow of Light. This class is for show and these cars will not run down the track. Send (up to) your 3 showiest cars from your Pack. Voting will take place at the District Pinewood Derby.
Open Show Class
Open to all cars. This class is for show. Send (up to) your 3 showiest cars from your Pack. Voting will take place at the District Pinewood Derby.
Please pick your cars up following the race. It is recommended that youth have a parent/guardian with them when they pick up their car.
Deadlines
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY 5:00PM May 13th
All cars must be labeled with the owner’s name and Pack number.
Packs must submit their cars to the District Derby in “RACE READY” condition between 10AM and Noon on race day May 16th.
No lubrications or modifications will be allowed on race day. If a car is found to not adhere to the Official Montana Council Pinewood Derby rules, the representative on the registration form will be contacted immediately and have the option of running the car in the open class (if the rules are met) or in the show class as no modifications are allowed to bring the car into compliance prior to the beginning of the race.
There will be no exceptions to the rules at the District Pinewood Derby. It is the Pack's responsibility to ensure the rules are adhered to before submitting the cars for the race.
