MONTANA COUNCIL
USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Practical

June 21st, 2025
Camp Melita Island
, Big Arm, MT

This course is limited to participants that are registered adults of Montana Council, Scouting America. Priority is given to members of the Range & Target Activities Committee, Camp Staff, and those providing events for their district. The class will start at 8:30 am Saturday morning in the dining hall. There is the option of arriving on Friday evening.

Archery equipment is provided- please do not bring your own gear.

The Practical class is a busy, hands-on 5 hours. We will break for a short lunch and continue Scouting America’s Range & Target Activities policies, Montana Council Archery policies, and how to teach the Scouting America Archery Rangemaster training course. We will also discuss some of the extras needed for the Archery Merit Badge.

There is a three-step process to joining this USA Archery Level 1 Instructor class:
1. Register and complete the USA Archery Level 1 on-line Instructor course ($40). This fee is separate from the in-person fee.
2. Register for the USA Archery Level 1 Practical on the USA Archery website (no cost).
3. Register for Practical on the Montana Council’s scoutingevent.com and attend the USA Archery Level 1 Practical at Melita Island ($45).

Again, a three-step process. First, go to the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification web page, register to take the on-line and successfully complete the On-Line Level I Instructor Couse. Cost $40 payable to USA Archery. It takes about 4 hours, is available 24 hours a day, and does not need to be completed all at once. Passing criteria on the exam is 75%. See link below.

Second, once the participant has completed the on-line Level 1 class, they must then go back on the USA Archery web to register for an in-person Level 1 Practical Course sanctioned and conducted by a Level II Instructor Trainer. The Practical Course involves applying what has been learned in the online class through activities on an archery range. USA Archery does not charge for this section. Go to the link below, locate the MCRATA USA Archery Level 1 Practical Class and register for it. See link below.
