Chainsaw Basic Training Course
When: October 24-25th, 2026
Begins at 9:00 am Saturday and Concludes at 2 pm on Sunday
Event Cost: $30
Join us October 24-25th for the Scouting Chainsaw Basic Training course. This course combines classroom and hands-on instruction for volunteers with varying skill levels and is required in order to use a chainsaw on Montana Council properties and/or during any Scouting activity. Training points include selecting and using the correct safety equipment, saw maintenance, tree felling techniques and common tree cutting hazards. Participants must be 21 years old or older and have their own safety equipment (helmet, chaps, gloves, long pants and sturdy boots) as well as parts A and B of their health form. We are only able to provide lodging for 6 participants on a first come, first served basis. Tent / RV camping is available as well. Meals will be provided.
Scouting now requires renewal of chainsaw training every 5 years. If you completed your training prior to 2021, your training expires on September 1st of this year. We welcome those with prior training to participate in this class to share their experience and renew their certification.
