Cub Scout STEM Day Fall 2019

Who: Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos

When: 

STEM Day West: Saturday, April 6th, 2019 
STEM Day East: Saturday March 23rd, 2019

What With the help of Mad Science staff and the facilities of St Charles Community College and Lewis and Clark Community College, the program will be focused on earning specific STEM-based Adventure Belt Loops/Pins within Cub Scout advancement program.  
 

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Sign-ins begin at 8:30 am, no sooner)

Where: 

STEM Day West: St. Charles Community College (Cottleville, MO)

STEM Day East: Lewis & Clark Community College (Godfrey, IL)
 

Cost:  $16.00 per Scout. This includes take home items and advancement cards for earning adventure belt loops.   

Payment:  Mastercard, VISA, and Discover.  Payments and registration will only be accepted online. Registrations and cancellations will be accepted no later than Monday, March 11, 2019. Substitutions from the Pack will be allowed.

Descriptions of Each Class:

Curiosity Intrigue and Magical Mysteries (Tiger): Learn amazing magic tricks and discover how science plays an important part. Amaze your parents and leaders. Create a secret code to send messages. Find how to spell your name in Braille. Discover how science can make things disappear. Make your very own Curious Cube to make objects disappear at home. Meets all requirements.

Air of the Wolf (Wolf):  Air is everywhere! Discover how important it is to your life. Make your own paper airplane that can do tricks and flips. Make your own harmonica and make some music. Investigate how sound moves in waves and how changing their speed can change what you hear. Take home your own Sonic Horn to continue your sound investigations. Meets all requirements.

Make it Move (Bear):Discover the world of simple machines and how you can put them to work. Create a exciting “explosion” of craft sticks. Make your own pulley system to help you lift. Build a lever and explore how it reacts to different weights. Put on your creative thinking cap as you design and build your own Rube Goldberg machine and put it to the test! Continue your investigation at home with your own Catapult! Meets all requirements.

Earth Rocks (Webelos):  Explore the world of geology! Discover rocks and minerals. Work with your fellow scouts to classify minerals on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Discover the geological features of our state and materials used around us. Investigate volcanoes as you build your own models and cause an eruption.

Meets requirement 1, (2 if weather permits), 3, 4, 5, and 6b. Also, meets additional requirement for NOVA Award Down and Dirty – 3A

Earth Rocks 6a will need to be completed on own (and 2 if weather prohibits).

***Note: This is the same program offered last spring. If you took this program last year as a Webelos I, you will be in the exact same class as a Webelos II.***

NO late registrations or walk-ins will be accepted.  Cub Scout participants will be capped at 20 per class. First come, first served.  

Scouts must be in the care of a responsible adult during the event.  Please bring portable chairs. The facility will only have enough chairs for the Scouts.
