Road Trip To Achievement Spring 2017

Event Details

Who: Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos - along with leaders and parents

When: Saturday, April 29, 2017

What: With the help of Junior Achievement staff, their program enhancements, and their facilities, the workshop will be focused on earning specific Adventure Belt Loops within the Cub Scout advancement program.  

Tigers will earn the Team Tiger loop, Wolves will earn the Adventure in Coins loop, Bears will earn the Grin and Bear It loop, and Webelos will earn the Arrow of Light Adventure:  Building a Better World pin.  

Time: 8:30 a.m. registration, 9 am to 12 pm program. 

Where: Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis, Inc., Dennis & Judy Jones Free Enterprise Center, 17339 North Outer Forty Road, Chesterfield, MO  63005

Cost: $6.00 per Scout. This includes take home items and advancement cards for earning adventure belt loops/pins.   

Payment: Mastercard, VISA, and Discover. Payments and registration will only be accepted online. Registrations and cancelations will be accepted no later than Sunday, April 23, 2017. Substitutions from the Pack will be allowed. 

NO late registrations or walk-ins will be accepted. Cub Scout participants will be capped at 30 per class. First come, first served.  

Scouts should be in uniform and must be in the care of a responsible adult during the event.  

Note: This program is a repeat of the Fall 2016 Road Trip to Achievement event; if your Scouts have not switched ranks since Fall and attended the Fall event, they would be repeating the same activities. 

Descriptions of Each Class

Tiger Adventure: Team Tiger – JA:  Our Families, Session Three, Great Job!

  1. List the different teams of which you are a part of.
  2. With your den, make a den job chart that shows everyone doing something to help.  As one of the den jobs, lead the Pledge of Allegiance at a den meeting.
  3. Pick two chores you will do at home once a week for a month.
  4. Make a chart to show three ways that members of your Tiger Team are different from each other.
  5. Do an activity to help your community or neighborhood team. Recycle

Wolf Elective Adventure:  Adventure in Coins – JA:  More than Money

  1. Identify different parts of the coin.
  2. Find the mint mark on a coin; identify what mint facility it was made in and what year it was made.
  3. Play a coin game.
  4. Choose a coin that interests you, and make a coin rubbing.  List information next to the coin detailing the pictures on it, the year it was made and the mint where it was made.
  5. Play a game or create a game board with your den or family where you can practice adding and subtracting coins.
  6. Create a balance scale
  7. Do a coin-weight investigation.

Bear Adventure:  Grin and Bear It – JA: In’s My Region

  1. Play a challenge game or initiative game with the members of your den.  Take part in a reflection after the game. Lesson 3
  2. Working with the members of your den, organize a Cub Scout Carnival and lead it at a special event. JA Road Trip to Achievement
  3. Help younger Cub Scouts take part in one of the events at the Cub Scout Carnival. Bears will organize and plan a carnival to take place at JA, helping younger scouts participate. Various activates will be planned for all scouts to participate at the end of Road Trip to Achievement
  4. After the Cub Scout Carnival, discuss with the members of your den and your den leader what went well, what could be done better, and how everyone worked together to make the event a success.
  5. Make and present an award to one of the adults who helped you organize the activities at the Cub Scout Carnival.

Webelos - Arrow of Light Adventure:  Building a Better World – JA: Personal Finance

  1. Explain the history of the United States flag. 
  2. Learn about and describe your rights and duties as a citizen, and explain what it means to be loyal to your country.
  3. Discuss in your Webelos den the term “rule of law,” and talk about how it applies to you in our everyday life.
  4. Meet with a government leader, and learn about his or her role in your community.  Discuss with the leader an important issue facing your community. Government leader/JA guest
  5. Learn about your family’s expenses, and help brainstorm ways to save money.  Plan and manage a budget. JA Personal Finance-Saving for Life/The Budget Game
  6. Learn about energy use in your community and in other parts of the world.
  7. Identify one energy problem in your community, and find out what has caused it.
  8. With the assistance of your den leader or parent, participate in an event that would help lead others in recycling and conserving resources. Recycle
