Archeology Camp- STEM 2020

Event Details

Dig up the past with the Center for American Archeology. 

Where: Center for American Archeology in Kampsville, IL
When: April 17- April 19, 2020 (overnight camping - schedule is below)
Who: Scouts BSA (male and female camp site and facilities will be available)
What: Earn your Archeology Merit Badge at a real field school! Scouts will enjoy a weekend packed with fun programming and educational experiences. This one-of-a-kind event includes camping, flint-knapping, spear-throwing, and participating in real, guided archeological research. Scouts will get to assist the Center for American Archeology on a site visit, participating in field work and digs that contribute to archeological research and knowledge
What's included: All program materials, curriculum, & instructors, lunch and dinner Saturday, space to camp with bathroom facilities nearby. 

Cost: $45 per BSA Scout, $20 per adult

This is your chance to be a real archeologist!

This event is open to troops and individuals.

Troops must provide appropriate supervision in accordance with BSA youth protection guidelines.

Provisional Troops are not available, so Scouts attending without their troop must have a parent stay with them. We recommend having 1 adult for a group of 2-6 youth to reserve more space for Scouts. Each weekend is limited to 40 total people. 

Schedule subject to change: 
Friday:

  • 6:00 pm: Check in at the Center for American Archeology Museum (101 N Broadway, Kampsville, IL 62053) & set up campsites 
  • 7:00 pm: Intro to CAA & Archeology 
  • 9:00 pm: In tents for the night

Saturday:

  • 7:00 am: Breakfast
  • 8:00 am : Field research
  • 12:30 pm: Lunch
  • 1:15 - 4:00 pm: Field research
  • 5:00 pm: Dinner
  • 7:00 pm: Campfire
  • 9:00 pm: In tents for the night

Sunday: 

  • 7:00 am: Breakfast
  • 7:30 am: Household Archeology
  • 8:30 am: Archeology Scene Investigation
  • 9:30 am: World Archeology Sites
  • 11:00 am: Flint-Knapping & Spear-Throwing
  • 12:00 pm: End of program

Pre-reqs: 

Scouts who participate in the full event will complete their Archeology Merit Badge

What to bring:

  • Health Forms A & B and CAA's Waiver (attached on this page)
  • All camping and sleeping equipment (this is an outdoor campsite)**
  • Food for your breakfasts on Saturday & Sunday 
  • Scout uniform (Class A & Class B)
  • Merit Badge card signed by your Scoutmaster
  • Archeology Merit Badge worksheet and/or book
  • Pen/pencil & notebook

SPACE IS LIMITED TO 30 SCOUTS 
REGISTRATION CLOSES ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT

Unfortunately we cannot accept late registrations or day of event walk-ins.
