2020-2021 Wilderness Remote First Aid

Event Details

Greater St. Louis Area Council’s Wilderness First Aid 16-hour course is consistent with guidelines established for and by the Boy Scouts of America.  This course is designed to meet the needs of those who go into areas beyond the reach of urban EMS. It is required for those units going to BSA National High Adventure Bases (Philmont, Sea Base, Northern Tier) and is recommended for back country camping, hiking, canoeing, or other high adventure activities. Participants must pass a written exam at the end of this course for completion and WFA certification.  Certification is good for two years.

You must be certified in adult CPR and AED before taking the course.  If you need this certification, please sign up for the CPR class on Friday night.  If you are CPR/AED current, please bring proof of currency Saturday morning.

Please note that we are following current CDC guidelines to meet COVID-19 risk mitigation.  Registration  is limited to 20 to provide adequate distance between particpiants.  You must  bring a mask with you and wear it throughout the course except while eating or drinking.  We will maintain physical separation except during some scenario work.  Participants will work in groups of 4 or 5 during scenarios.  We will minimize the time working together but will meet course requirements for certification.

Please bring equipment and first aid supplies that you would need to bring on a trek. Overnight tent camping is available.  Plan to pitch your tent on the lawn outside the dining hall.  COVID-19 mitigation prevents participants from sleeping in the dining hall.  Participants from the same household may tent together and must comply with BSA Youth Protection guidelines.  Food service will meet GSLAC guidelines to mitigate COVID-19 transmission risk. We will serve Friday night cracker barrel, Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner, cracker barrel, and Sunday breakfast and lunch.

CPR/AED-Friday 6:30pm-10:30pm
WFA- Saturday 8:00am-9:00pm and Sunday 7:00am-2:00pm.
