Training for Adult Leaders
(Must be 18 years or older)
September 25-27, 2026
at Camp Geiger
Every unit deserves a fully trained leader!
Do you want to give a better experience to your Scouts? Do you want to better your unit and Scouting in general? Doesn't every Scout deserve a trained leader?
This training is for you!
Pony Express Council Training Weekend!
Training offered: Scouts BSA Outdoor Leader, Scoutmaster Fundamentals, Cubmaster Fundamentals, BALOO, Safeguarding Youth Protection, Peer on Peer Training, Merit Badge Counselor.
(please complete the online portion of BALOO before the training weekend).
Things to bring with you for the training weekend:
-Scout uniform
-Tent (no RV's, you will be sleeping in a tent, shelter will be available if severe weather occurs).
-Sleeping gear for the weather.
-Comfortable solid shoes, you will be taking a hike thru camp.
-A chair
-Handbook for your scouting position.
-Note taking materials (staff will not be responsible for misplaced items).
-Shower items and extra clothing.
-Personal mess kit or eating materials.
-Medications
-If you are on CPAP or other medical devises, power will be available. Bring an extension cord.
-Personal first aid kit for demonstration.
-Water bottle
-Compass, if you have one.
Please arrive Friday evening having already eaten. The program will begin no later than 7pm with registration starting at 6pm. There will be a cracker barrel late in the evening.

Saturday
7AM - Breakfast by Patrol
8AM - Campsite Selection
9AM - Backpacking Items
10:30AM - Break
10:45AM - Woods Tools
12:00pm -Lunch by Patrol
1:00pm - Map and Compass/Plant ID
2:45PM -Knots
3:45PM -First Aid
5:30PM -Merit Badge Counselor Training
6:00PM -Dinner by Patrol
7:15PM -Scouts own & campfire
Sunday
7:00AM -Breakfast by Patrol
8:10AM -Scoutmaster Fundamentals / OWL
12:00PM - Closing Cracker Barrel and Awards
Some basic snacks will be provided throughout the day, but if you wish for a specific snack, please bring it with you.
It is not nessesary to bring a dessert or snack for the group, However, if you do, please let the training team know what you are bringing.
We plan to continue training well into Sunday. If we finish early, we may dismiss early.
Please note: Heart of America may not honor the in-person classroom training.
