A vehicle permit is required and may be purchased upon arrival; $5 per vehicle for groups per night, or $10 weekend rate.

For:    Scout BSA units (any faith and all ages of Scouts and families/units welcome). The Historic Trails Award is for Scouts BSA troops or crews.

Earning the award is optional. See the attached award requirements page.

This camporee-style program starts at 9 am on Saturday and will wrap up by 10 am Sunday. Campers arrive Friday night and leave Sunday morning. Saturday night church service included. On Saturday, there will be stations set up around the park for you to participate in activities and learn what you need to complete the requirements for the award. Each unit should research and prepare a report and presentation on one part of the Crow Wing area. BE CREATIVE! COSTUMES AND PROPS ARE ENCOURAGED!

Ideally, units will do historical skits at the Saturday night campfire.

While you are at the park, be sure to visit the historic Old Crow Wing Town Site at the confluence of the Mississippi and Crow Wing rivers. Signs share the story of this frontier town in the mid-1800s. Beginning at the picnic area parking lot and boat landing, climb the stairs to the Chippewa Lookout and check out the marker for the Battle of 1768!

We have the group campsite reserved for up to 70 scouts for camping.

Families are welcome to join the fun for the weekend by reserving individual campsites within the campground through the MN State Park reservation system at https://reservemn.usedirect.com/MinnesotaWeb/

The troop or crew adult leader is responsible for submitting the Historic Trails Program application after the event with the local council service center. https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/430-066.pdf

PRIOR TO EVENT FOR SCOUTS BSA PARTICIPANTS: Prepare your unit report about Crow Wing State Park – select one historic marker topic below or a bit of history of the area from 1840 to 1870 PLUS costumes and/or props are encouraged for Saturday unit presentation. PLEASE EMAIL YOUR HISTORY TOPIC TO tmgaetz@yahoo.com to be sure we don’t have duplicate topics. Historic marker topics: (Old Crow Wing Town Site, Chippewa Lookout, Battle of 1768, Oxcart Trail marker, and Father Pierz or Chapel).
