Wilderness Survival & Land Navigation Camp

Event Details

Wilderness Survival and Land Navigation Camp
Sunday, July 17 - Saturday, July 23, 2022
Cuyuna Scout Camp
$270 per Scout BSA

Come be "Wild and Free" this summer at Wilderness Survival & Land Navigation Camp.

This specialty camp is designed to put Scout BSA skills to the test.  Your adventure week begins after lunch on Sunday, July 17, 2022, with your arrival at Cuyuna Scout Camp.  You will bring with you one backpack or duffle filled with the items YOU believe you'll need to survive the week in the wilderness and your tent.

Monday morning your "training/refresher" time begins.  You will be taught basic survival skills and will have the luxury of a tent.  Skills to be covered: edible plants, cooking without utensils, fire building without matches or lighter, first aid, safe shelter building and more.  As the week moves on, training turns into implementation; your skills will be put to test as you trek the wilderness & build your own shelter.

As part of this camp, Scouts will be taught how to navigate terrain safely and effectively using both map/compass and GPS.  Currently a retired army infantryman is designing the land navigation course you will work through.

Due to the nature of this camp, it is limited to 12 participants.  Twin Valley Council offered a Wilderness Camp similar to this in 2021.  Those who participated said it was a "fun and exciting week".  One Scout even said it was his "favorite week at Cuyuna ever!"

Cost for the week is $270 per Scout BSA.  All adult leadership will be provided.  This is a specialty camp so second week of summer camp pricing does not apply.  Due to the nature of this camp, space is limited to 12 participants.  This experience is very different from Cuyuna Summer Camp and is meant to be "in addition to" and not "instead of" Cuyuna Summer Camp.  So yes, Scouts can do both!

All participants must be BSA registered and submit a Health Form part ABC.
