Back by popular demand!  The Daytime Summer Adventures are returning for 2021!  

Twin Valley Council is excited to offer at least 7 different merit badge adventures.  Each session is self contained and Scouts should be able to complete most if not all of the requirements.  Each merit badge has specific details so be sure to read carefully; each merit badge requires a separate registration.

Pottery Merit Badge
Thursday, August 5, 2021
Mankato Makerspace   1700 3rd Avenue in Mankato
11am - 5pm
$75 per Scout; Class is limited to 6 Scouts

Sink your hands into clay and learn more about this fascinating art that is part craft and part science.  Counselor Dustin Swiers will lead you through a full day of hands-on learning.  Cost to attend this merit badge session is $75 and covers your clay and other materials needed.

Scouts must complete requirements #3, #6 and #8 prior to attending this class.  Scouts also need to bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.

All current Covid directives will be followed including the wearing of masks and social  distancing.  Scouts and adults attending must wear facemask.  

Scouts should bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks.

Railroading Merit Badge

Center for Scouting in Mankato
8am - 6pm
$50 per Scout; Class is limited to 20 Scouts

At the turn of the 19th century, travel over land in the United States was slower than it had been in ancient Rome.  And look how far we've come! 

Scout who sign up for this Railroading merit badge will meet at the Center for Scouting at 8am.  From there you will travel to the Twin Cities metro area for a ride on the Osceola, WI train and a trip through history at the Jackson Street Roundhouse Museum in St. Paul.  You'll arrive back at the Center for Scouting at 6pm.  Cost to attend this great outing is $50 per Scout, which includes your travel, train ride and private tour of the museum.

There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge but Scout must bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.

All current Covid directives will be followed including the wearing of masks and social distancing.  Scouts attending must wear a facemask.

Scouts should bring a lunch, snacks and drinks.

Aviation Merit Badge

$25 per Scout; Class is limited to 15 Scouts (possibly up to 30 if Covid requirements change)

Flying!  For most of history, people have dreamed of flying, imagining how it would feel to soar through the sky like an eagle!  This merit badge adventure will give you that opportunity!  Scouts will spend the morning examining flight and then enjoying an airplane ride!  Cost to attend this uplifting merit badge class is $25 per Scout which includes your flight and any needed materials for class.

There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge but Scout must bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.  All Scouts are also required to have a signed BSA Parent Permission Form for the flight and the Young Eagle Consent Form.

All current Covid directives will be followed including the wearing of masks and social distancing.  Scouts and adults attending must wear a facemask.

Landscape Architecture Merit Badge

$25 per Scout; Class is limited to 20 Scouts

Your earliest experience as a landscape architect was probably in a  sandbox, where you poured water into a moat around a castle you built using an overturned pail.  At this merit badge class, you'll take that same idea, build on it to develop a more mature landscape creation.  Cost for this class is $25 per Scout which included all needed materials.

There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge but Scout must bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.

Skating Merit Badge - Ice Skating Option

$30 per Scout; Class is limited to 10 Scouts

If you have an enjoyment for ice skating, this merit badge session is the perfect way to dig into a favorite even more.  Cost for this merit badge is $30 per Scout and includes skate rental and ice time.

There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge but Scout must bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.

All current Covid directives will be followed including the wearing of masks and social distancing.  Scouts and adults attending must wear a facemask.

Water Sports Merit Badge
Wednesday, June 23, 2021
Bass Lake near Winnebago
9am - 6pm
$50 per Scout; Class is limited to 6 Scouts

We live in the land of 10,000 lakes!  Let's get out and enjoy them.  With this merit badge class you'll spend the day at the lake learning various aspects of water sports.  Cost for this class is $50 which includes materials needed, your lunch and use of aquatic equipment.

Meet at the public landing of Bass Lake located near Winnebago.   Your hosts for the day, Brian and Kathy Ehlert, will meet you there and you'll be on your way to a day on the water.

Participants for this merit badge must be comfortable in the water and be a strong swimmer.  Requirement #3 is to pass the BSA swim test.  Participants are asked to bring their most current copy of BSA swim test qualifications.  Please contact your Scoutmaster for this.

In case of inclement weather this event will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021; same place same time.
Thursday, August 5 2021 will be date for a skills check off day if needed because Scout did not pass skill on June 23rd.  August 6th is back up day for skills check due to inclement weather.

There are pre-requisites  for this merit badge; Requirement 1a,b and c, requirement 2 a,b, and c and requirement 3.  Instructors will briefly go over these pre-requisites.  Scouts must have their merit badge worksheet with them and the answers to these must be filled in.  Scout must bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.

In order to save time and provide proper equipment all participants should "Be Prepared" to indicate height, weight and shoe size during registration process.

Lunch is provided for Scouts.

Animal Science Merit Badge - Swine option

$25 per Scout; Class is limited 10 Scouts

This is not your typical day on the farm.  Scouts will spend the afternoon touring one of the largest swine operations in southern Minnesota.  There are a few unusual details with this merit badge session so please read carefully.

Upon arrival at the Christensen Farms Research Farm, all Scouts will be required to shower before entering the facility (Parents will not be allowed to enter the touring area as we are not able to accommodate that many people through the shower in process.)  Everything required to do so will be provided by the Research Farm.  Shower stalls are individual (not locker room style).

After shower in process, Scouts will be provided Research Farm specific clothing (including undergarments).  Clothing and boot sizes will be necessary to list during registration.  Gender identify will also be collected during registration so we can understand an underwear/bra preference.

All personal items such as phones, jewelry, etc. will not be allowed into the Research Farm due to bio-security.  Please leave as much as possible home or with your parents in waiting area.

Scouts can have no contact with hogs for a minimum of 3 days/2nights prior to this tour.  There are pre-requisites for this merit badge; requirements #1, 2, and 3 and Scout must bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.

Plumbing Merit Badge

Norseland Scout Camp
8am - 2pm
$40 per Scout; Class limited to 8 Scouts

It's amazing to think how knowing a few basic plumbing techniques could keep you out of hot water!  This merit badge session will teach a basic but important skills needed for plumbing.  Cost for this session is $40 per Scout and class size is limited to 8 Scouts.

There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge but Scout must bring with to class a blue card with all the appropriate information completed.

All current Covid directives will be followed including the wearing of masks and social distancing.  Scouts and adults attending must wear a facemask.
