Pine River Winter Jam - Scenic Trails District

Event Details

January 25, 2025, is Pine River Winter Jam
If you’re looking for a winter rafting wilderness adventure that will build character, skills, and lifelong memories, this trip is for you and your Troop!

Winter Jam on the Pine is a rafting trip that will challenge Scouts and Venturers to turn off all the distractions around them and become immersed in the now—to explore outside. Most importantly, it’s the opportunity to instill a lifelong love of being outdoors during all seasons in our Scouts.
But we know that outdoor winter activities may be challenging, so we’ve handled all the logistics necessary to get your Scouts outside. We will provide guided rafting down the beautiful Pine River in northern Michigan, utilizing Pine River Paddle Sports equipment and staff. Following the float, your Scouts will experience a wilderness snowshoe hike through some of the river's most picturesque views.

Your Troop will need to know the following:
Winter clothing appropriate for the weather
Scouts should be at least 13 years old to participate
Leaders must have proof of completing Safety Afloat training (ratio of 1 trained adult:10 scouts)
Units are responsible for bringing their lunch and snacks for the day
Camping is available through the Silver Creek State Forest Campground. Here is a link to more information: https://www2.dnr.state.mi.us/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=600&type=SFCG
This is a day activity. If units choose to camp, they must follow Scouting rules and regulations and the Guide to Safe Scouting.
Pine River Paddle Sports will provide high-quality inflatable rafts, river equipment, including paddles, and a personal flotation device (PFD).
All participants should know, understand, and respect the rules and procedures for safe boating activities provided by Safety Afloat guidelines. Please Review Safety Afloat with your Scouts before arriving for our adventure: https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/gss/gss02/#j (This is a good learning opportunity for your Scouts to practice preparing a float plan for their excursion.)
Transfers from the pullout at the end of the float trip back to the campground will be available upon request, but Scouts and Leaders are encouraged to utilize the second part of the adventure by hiking (snowshoeing, hopefully) back to the launch.
We encourage you to bring your snowshoes. Some will be provided, but we won't have enough for everyone. We can stage these at the end of the float trip for you or your Scout.
Scouting Annual Health and Medical Record A&B will be required for all participants.

Two launch times are being offered: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. You must pre-register for your preferred launch time.
Please arrive to check-in no later than 9:30 am for the 10:00 am launch.
Please arrive to check-in no later than 12:30 pm for the 1:00 pm launch.
This adventure isn’t just a trip; it’s an experience you’ll never forget. The best part is that Scouts and Scouters will build character, skills, and memories that last a lifetime.
